Muslims must denounce terrorists' use of aggressive Quranic verses: Hindu forum

New Age Islam has been asking Muslims and particularly Ulema (religious scholars) to come forward with their views on the issue of bellicose Quranic verses and firmly declare that while they constitute valuable historical evidence of the growth of Islam and the mammoth problems it faced in its initial stages, they do not provide guidance to us in our conduct of affairs today and that they are no longer relevant for us in the present context. It has become necessary to do so in view of the fact that a new religion that can be called Jihadism, but goes in the name of Islam or true Islam and is called by many Radical Islam, is brainwashing our youth and leading them astray in the name of these combative and confrontational verses asking us to kill all Kafirs wherever we find them.

New Age Islam has been of the view that it is not enough for our Ulema to denounce terrorism in a general way and call it against the tenets of Islam while continuing to teach belligerent Quranic verses to our people and telling them simultaneously that all Quranic verses, every comma and full stop, is of universal significance and provides us guidance in all circumstances and all times. These enemies of Islam, the Jihadists, are using these verses to turn our youth into suicide bombers and killers of innocents, acts that are clearly and patently un-Islamic. New Age Islam has been campaigning for some time now that we set our own house in order before others start demanding that we do so.

Please see the following article among others:

Indian Ulema have no time to lose, must call warlike Quranic surahs obsolete

http://newageislam.com/NewAgeIslamArticleDetail.aspx?ArticleID=787

Now we have a demand from Dharma Raksha Manch which represents ancient and highly revered Hindu religious institutions "to issue a fatwa against terrorists claiming shelter in Islam." A resolution passed recently (reproduced below) says: "The terrorists' claim is this: The Hindus are kafirs; the holy Quran commands the faithful to kill them; whatever they do constitutes religious war, jihad. So they are only obeying the command of Allah as proclaimed in their holy war....."

We also have evidence from confessions of terrorists telling us how these combative verses of the Holy Quran that do not apply to our circumstances today are being used to brainwash them into believing so. This is largely because we as a community and our Ulema have not taken the necessary pre-emptive action that New Age Islam has been suggesting for some time. Please find reproduced below the confessional statement of Qayamuddin Kapadia, 28, of the Indian Mujahideen — prime accused in the Ahmedabad blasts and a key suspect in the Surat bomb-planting as well as in the Delhi blasts  who spoke exclusively to The Indian Express in the custody of Surat police. This interview is also reproduced below.

Brief quotations from both documents:

"The terrorists' claim is this: The Hindus are kafirs; the holy Quran commands the faithful to kill them; whatever they do constitutes religious war, jihad. So they are only obeying the command of Allah as proclaimed in their holy war. The Dharma Raksha Manch is extremely concerned at the religious motivation for terror. We are also concerned that the terrorists' view of the Islamic holy text has the potential to motivate many fellow Muslims not only to support their acts but also turn them into terrorists. Despite this explicit and brazen invocation of the Islamic text for violence, the Islamic religious institutions have kept total silence on terrorists claim that their holy book commands them to kill non-believers. Instead, there is an attempt by some to explain away the phenomenon of terror as due to illiteracy, unemployment and other socio-economic causes.

"The Dharma Raksha Manch is of the firm opinion that Islamic theological institutions and their leaders owe it to their faith and its adherents to come forward and comprehensively deny, with an appropriate fatwa, as per Islamic tradition, the claims of the terrorists. But regrettably there is no such thought or move by Islamic religious leaders even though most of them have expressed themselves against terror and asserted that Islam is a religion of peace."

---

"The Majlis sessions were intense, appealing strongly to the religious, emotional and intellectual sentiments of the captive audience. "Each Majlis would start with the recitation of the holy Quran verses by Maulana Abu Bashar. Then Taqueer would begin by reminding us about the war sanctioned by the holy Prophet to save Islam in this world. The topic would then gradually shift to the current situation of Muslims the world over — we would be made to believe Muslims everywhere are being tortured and and murdered, giving many examples, like that of Palestine and the torture of innocent Iraqi Muslims by US soldiers." -- Qayamuddin Kapadia, 28, of the Indian Mujahideen — prime accused in the Ahmedabad blasts and a key suspect in the Surat bomb-planting as well as in the Delhi blasts — spoke exclusively to The Indian Express in the custody of Surat police.

It is imperative that the leaders of the Muslim community and our Ulema come out clearly not only denouncing terrorism in general as they are already doing, but also clarifying their position on the warlike Quranic verses asking us to kill all Kafirs. We cannot claim to be a peaceful people while teaching in our main religious text as God's universal instruction to us to kill all people belonging to other faiths.

Hindu Dharma Raksha Manch demands Islamic institutions denounce terrorists' use of aggressive Quranic verses

Tuesday, February 10, 2009

http://dailypioneer.com/155461/Let-Islamic-institutions-denounce-terrorists-use-of-faith.html

Islamic religious leaders owe it to their faith and community to issue a fatwa against terrorists claiming shelter in Islam, says Dharma Raksha Manch in this appeal

T he Dharma Raksha Manch recently adopted a resolution, appealing to Islamic religious institutions and leaders to denounce terrorism. The following are excerpts from the resolution:

"It is the sacred duty of Islamic religious leaders to isolate terrorists who claim the right to kill kafirs as per the tenets of Islam.

The Dharma Raksha Manch, which consists of ancient and highly revered Hindu religious institutions, is extremely concerned about the relentless attacks on India by terrorists who openly claim to be inspired by the Islamic faith and the Islamic holy texts.

The e-mail which were proved to have been sent at the instance of terrorists clearly make out that they are motivated by what they interpret to be their religious duty. Such e-mail came ahead of the blasts in Bangalore, Jaipur and Delhi and the media had carried them. The e-mail sent by the terrorists who described themselves as Indian Mujahideen before the terror attack on Gujarat brings out their reliance on their religious edicts for their act of 'jihad' against the 'non-believers' (kafirs).

The terrorists' claim is this: The Hindus are kafirs; the holy Quran commands the faithful to kill them; whatever they do constitutes religious war, jihad.

The Dharma Raksha Manch is of the firm opinion that Islamic theological institutions and their leaders owe it to their faith and its adherents to come forward and comprehensively deny, with an appropriate fatwa, as per Islamic tradition, the claims of the terrorists. But regrettably there is no such thought or move by Islamic religious leaders even though most of them have expressed themselves against terror and asserted that Islam is a religion of peace.

The Dharma Raksha Manch, therefore, appeals to Islamic religious Institutions and scholars to come forward with an appropriate fatwa to declare in unequivocal terms that:

# Hindus are not kafirs;

# Therefore there can be no jihad against Hindus;

The Dharma Raksha Manch also appeals to the Islamic religious leaders to issue a proper fatwa according to their tradition to further declare that:

# India is not Dar-ul-Harab, that is, India is not a land against which Islamists have to wage war;

# India is a Dar-ul-Aman, that is, India is a land of peace as Muslims can practice Islam without any impediment.

Such an unequivocal declaration alone will deny terrorists the legitimacy to use Islam for their violence, and isolate them within the Islamic community.

The Dharma Raksha Manch recalls that in 1992 Dar-ul-Uloom Deoband, a respected Islamic school, issued a fatwa saying that Hindus are not kafirs, India is not Dar-uI-Harab, but Dar-ul-Aman. Unfortunately, many other Islamic institutions had issued fatwa against Dr Abdul Raza Bedar, the then director of Khuda Baksh Library in Patna, who had said that Hindus were not kafirs. Now even Dar-ul-Uloom Deoband has kept silent on this vital claim of the terrorists, although it has held large conventions against terror and has declared that Islam is against terrorism.

The Dharma Raksha Manch, therefore, appeals to all Islamic religious institutions and particularly, the following:

1. All-India Milli Council;

2. All-India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat;

3. All-India Muslim Personal Law Board;

4. All-India Organisation of Imams of Mosques;

5. Al Jamia Tus Saifiyah;

6. Al Jamiatul Ashrafia;

7. Dar-ul-Uloom Deoband;

8. Dar-ul-Uloom Nadwatul Ulama, Lucknow;

9. Dar-ul-Uloom Manzar-e-Islam;

10. Islamic Fiqh Academy;

11. Tabligh Jamaat (known as a Markaz);

12 Jamaat-e-Islami Hind; and,

13 Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind

to come forward to declare,

# Hindus are not kafirs;

# India is not Dar-ul-Harab;

# India is Dar-ul-Aman; and,

# there can be no jihad against India or Hindus.

The Dharma Raksha Manch also appeals to the Islamic religious leaders to declare that any one who violates their fatwa is not a Muslim.

The Dharma Raksha Manch firmly believes that the Islamic religious leaders will not allow their faith to be misused by the terrorists and will positively respond to the appeal of the Dharma Raksha Manch. The Dharma Raksha Manch is firmly of the view that this is the only way to isolate the terrorists from the Islamic faith and mainstream Muslim society.

This will only stop the faith-motivated recruitment and support for terror. All other efforts can never bear fruit unless this fundamental cause of terror, namely the claim of the terrorists, is clearly and effectively repudiated by the Islamic religious and spiritual leaders.

The Dharma Raksha Manch is sending this appeal to the Islamic religious and spiritual institutions individually.

This appeal has been signed by the Acharyas who constitute the Dharma Raksha Manch."

'Brainwashed with Iraq, Babri, Gujarat riots'

Kamaal Saiyed Posted: Feb 11, 2009 at 0302 hrs IST

Surat: Tears streaming down his face, his hands trembling, the man who allegedly led the serial bombing of Ahmedabad that killed 58 and injured over 200 last July claimed he was brainwashed and ensnared into doing what he did by radical Islamist handlers.

Qayamuddin Kapadia, 28, of the Indian Mujahideen — prime accused in the Ahmedabad blasts and a key suspect in the Surat bomb-planting as well as in the Delhi blasts — spoke exclusively to The Indian Express in the custody of Surat police today.

The plan to carry out the Ahmedabad blasts and the planting of 29 live bombs in Surat, Kapadia said, was firmed up in January 2008 at a clandestine meeting of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) in Halol in Vadodara.

But that was only a culmination of earlier meetings, including a SIMI meeting that he attended in Kerala in August 2006. Among those who led the crucial Halol meeting was SIMI General Secretary Safdar Nagori whom the Madhya Pradesh police arrested in March last year, Kapadia said.

If Kapadia is to be believed, his transformation from an ordinary Muslim youth with ordinary dreams and a loving family to look after to one of the country's top Terror accused, is a tale of intense indoctrination.

It started with Kapadia, a deeply religious youth, meeting up with Sajid Mansuri, the SIMI hardliner and a qualified engineer who is also in police custody now for the Ahmedabad blasts. His journey to terror began in a closed little room in Vatva.

"I met Sajid Mansuri during December 2007, we soon became friends. Both he and I were privately doing Islamic propagation work in Vadodara, and we began getting much closer to each other. Some time later, he introduced me to Abdul Subhan alias Tauqeer in a room in Vatva area where Maulana Abubashar (another key accused in the blasts) and a few other youths were there. Later, Sajid Mansuri left the place and we stayed with Tauqeer."

Tauqeer, says Kapadia, would hold a Majlis (meetings) with them thrice a day in that room. "We were not allowed to go out even to the mosques for prayers, we were told to pray inside that room."

The Majlis sessions were intense, appealing strongly to the religious, emotional and intellectual sentiments of the captive audience. "Each Majlis would start with the recitation of the holy Quran verses by Maulana Abu Bashar. Then Taqueer would begin by reminding us about the war sanctioned by the holy Prophet to save Islam in this world. The topic would then gradually shift to the current situation of Muslims the world over — we would be made to believe Muslims everywhere are being tortured and and murdered, giving many examples, like that of Palestine and the torture of innocent Iraqi Muslims by US soldiers."

Then the speakers would turn closer home. "They would keep reminding us about the demolition of the Babri Masjid and the 2002 Gujarat riots. They would show us photographs of dead bodies of Muslim women and children burnt and brutally killed in communal violence", Kapadia recalled.

"From among us, they selected enthusiastic youths who are both physically and mentally strong, and loyal to their ideology. They relentlessly kept convincing us that someone from the community should take revenge and kill people of particular community. I was one of the few Taqueer selected, and he he kept me with him for three months."

The recruits were kept isolated. "They didn't allow us to meet even our family members. During Majlis, they would explain to us the meaning of verses from the Quran and interpret those to convince us that we must take revenge and give a proper retaliation to persecution. Later, I came to know that the particular volumes of Quran that they had used to read out and interpret meanings was different from what is found in the market."

Kapadia remained in Tauqeer's company for three months from April 2008 and visited different places in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. According to Kapadia, Taqueer spoke fluent English, regularly read English newspapers, and kept watching international news on TV. "He would particularly look for news of the torture of Muslims in the other countries. Taqueer wanted to keep everything secret and had warned Kapadia not to disclose his working style even to Sajid Mansuri, he said.

Weeks went by, and soon came July 26, when the bombs they planted in Ahmedabad left a trial of blood and gore. Three months of desperate hide-and-seek with the law and then Kapadia was picked up from Indore.

"Main sirf ek baat kehna chahta hoon un Muslim ladkon se jo abhi tak in logon ki giraft mein nahin aye hain. Yeh log aapko Muslimon par huwe zulm ke photo dikhakar aur kaumwad ki batein sunakar aapko emotional karke apni taraf attract karte hain. Aur desh virodhi kaam karne ke liye uksate hain."

(I want to convey only one message to Muslim youths who haven't been ensnared yet. They will show you photos and tell you stories of torture on Muslims and make you emotional. They will then convince you to carry out anti-national activities.)

Kapadia broke down saying he has lost all touch with his elderly parents, his wife and his small daughter and they have no one to take care of them.
