Munir Comission Report-Part 37: The role of the newspapers in the campaign

Dr. Qureshi had asked the local editors to an informal tea. At this function, Mr. Hamid Nizami alleged that Mir Nur Ahmad himself was responsible for carrying on this campaign in the papers. Dr. Qureshi said that Mir Nur Ahmad said nothing in reply to the allegation. Mr. Humid Nizami, appearing as a witness, stated that he had pointed his finger to Mir Nur Ahmad as “the arch-criminal”. Dr. Qureshi does not remember the exact words used, but agrees to the statement in broad outline.

When he returned to Karachi, he told the Prime Minister that in his opinion the agitation was being fanned by the Directorate of Public Relations and that “it was very strange that a department of a Provincial Government should adopt a policy in such an important matter without explicit permission or orders from the Central Government. I should say that if Mr. Daultana did not know that the Directorate of Public Relations was fanning the agitation, it was very strange, because cuttings of newspapers on this important question must have been supplied to him and he must have known that papers which were almost directly under the control of Government, like the ‘Afaq’, were adopting the same line. Therefore, I really was surprised when Mr. Daultana told me that this line had been taken without his knowledge”. Mr. Daultana told him he would look into the matter, but Dr. Qureshi heard nothing further.

Suicide is totally prohibited in Islam: Ahl-e-Hadith Fanatic Maulana Sajid Mir is a deviant, Islamic Ideology, NewAgeIslam.com

Islamic Ideology
Suicide is totally prohibited in Islam: Ahl-e-Hadith Fanatic Maulana Sajid Mir is a deviant
Why Allama Sajid Mir Is Wrong? Suicide is completely
forbidden In Quran and Hadith

His/her disbelief [Kufr - Denial] makes him/her to do that! Suicide Attack and Suicide is tantamount to denying Allah, Quran and Judgment Day. No Paradise [Jannah], Virgin [Houri] or any other such blessings from Allah for those Muslims who are indulged in Suicide Bombing and Suicide Attack. It is Haraam [Unlawful Act] of the worst kind. The confusion on what is suicide and who may be targeted in war. A small minority of Muslims (who are not in the category of those who have nullified their Islam*) misunderstand the word shaheed (martyr) when it comes to war and the act of suicide. Muslims may engage in defensive wars and if they happen to die in this way, doing it for the sake of Allah, insha'Allah they die shaheed, and as we know, a shaheed may attain paradise. Some Muslims incorrectly think that suicidal bombings during war is not suicide but an act of defensive war. They see it the same as fighting with guns or swords in a war. However, shooting in a war, one goes in with the intention NOT to die. Using oneself as a walking or flying bomb, one goes in with the intention of killing oneself (and the perceived enemy).

Sometimes a Muslim may have enough knowledge to quote the hadith in which it was said that the companions of Prophet Muhammad [PBUH] would throw their bodies on top of the Prophet and were willing to take a hit for him. However, this does not mean they were intending to kill themselves! This means they were willing to perhaps take an attack to an arm or leg to prevent death to the Prophet saaws. Or that they would shield him and escort him to safety and by shielding him, preventing the enemy from striking at that moment since the Prophet couldn't be clearly seen in the crowd. Putting oneself at risk is not the same thing as intending to do an act that would surely kill oneself!

Why fear the constitution of the new Central Madrasa Board?, Current affairs, NewAgeIslam.com

Current affairs
Why fear the constitution of the new Central Madrasa Board?
By Mahfoozur Rahman

Let’s see this suggestion of the Central Madrasa Board in the words of Justice Mohammad Sohail Ejaz Siddiqui, the chairman of the central commission for minority educational institutions. He told the media in a particular interview: “We travelled all over the country in relation with the formation of Central Madrasa Board and visited the small-scale madrasas where poor Muslims’ children study. Ultimately, we decided to establish such an institution, where the Muslim students can study religious as well as scientific subjects simultaneously under the guidance of Central Madrasa Board. The teaching of all subjects up to STD XII according to CBSE pattern would be arranged there without any interference of the government bodies. It would be an autonomous body founded with the seed money (Rs.500 crore), a one-time assistance given by the government.

The affiliation of the madrasas with the Central Madrasa Board would be optional: either of the parties can terminate the contract. The government or the Central Madrasa Board would not interfere in matters of the Islamic syllabus or their financial matters. They would be run by the Islamic scholars only. On being affiliated, the Central Madrasa Board would be responsible for providing efficient teachers and financial help to make them excellent educational centres. As an advantage, the students would obtain education up to STD XII according to the CBSE pattern making them eligible to be admitted into reputed universities. Another advantage would be that they would be taught by eminent scholars to enhance their knowledge and learning. All madrasas would function like light houses dispensing the darkness of illiteracy to enlighten our lives.

Muslims must shed victim mentality: Tariq Ramadan, Ijtihad, Rethinking Islam, NewAgeIslam.com

Ijtihad, Rethinking Islam
Muslims must shed victim mentality: Tariq Ramadan
It means being faithful to our holy texts, but also evolving our understanding of religion to face the challenges of today. So there are certain aspects of Islam that are not going to change, such as our creed and our basic pillars. What must however change is how we implement the religion socially and politically. Muslim societies need more democratisation, more freedom and a better understanding of how to deal with other cultures. We have principles, but what we need is transformational reform.

No. These are both steps of a larger process. The first step is of course to adapt to the reality we face, as it is only with better understanding that we will be able to transform that reality. In order to contribute to the evolution in Western thought that they desire, Muslims in the West should know the culture, history and collective psychology that has created the current context in the first place. Only by gaining this knowledge can they become a contributing force for more justice, values and ethics.

On wearing a beard or, more appropriately, On some Muslims' beard complex, Debate, NewAgeIslam.com

Debate
On wearing a beard or, more appropriately, On some Muslims' beard complex
The Discourse
A. This question shows the unfortunate state of lack of knowledge that has long prevailed among Muslims concerning the details of their religion. Let us briefly consider the Hadith the reader quotes, assuming that it is authentic, and outline what it implies. The Hadith simply speaks of the practice of one of the Prophet’s companions who commands great respect for his thorough knowledge. The Hadith does not quote Ibn Omar as saying that what he used to do was ordered or recommended by the Prophet. It simply states what he used to do. This may simply be a matter of personal choice. Had Ibn Omar followed his action with a statement to the effect that he was doing it as a result of an order by the Prophet, it would have taken the Hadith into a higher degree to make the order given to Ibn Omar applicable to others. He makes no such comment. Therefore, his action does not constitute any requirement of any level which other people should observe.
