WOMEN IN ISLAM VERSUS WOMEN IN THE JUDAEO-CHRISTIAN TRADITION: THE MYTH &THE REALITY- Part 2, NewAgeIslam.com

WOMEN IN ISLAM VERSUS WOMEN IN THE JUDAEO-CHRISTIAN TRADITION: THE MYTH &THE REALITY- Part 2

The image of Eve as temptress in the Bible has resulted in an extremely negative impact on women throughout the Judaeo-Christian tradition. All women were believed to have inherited from their mother, the Biblical Eve, both her guilt and her guile. Consequently, they were all untrustworthy, morally inferior, and wicked. Menstruation, pregnancy, and childbearing were considered the just punishment for the eternal guilt of the cursed female sex. In order to appreciate how negative the impact of the Biblical Eve was on all her female descendants we have to look at the writings of some of the most important Jews and Christians of all time. Let us start with the Old Testament and look at excerpts from what is called the Wisdom Literature in which we find:

"I find more bitter than death the woman who is a snare, whose heart is a trap and whose hands are chains. The man who pleases God will escape her, but the sinner she will ensnare....while I was still searching but not finding, I found one upright man among a thousand but not one upright woman among them all" (Ecclesiastes 7:26-28).

New Age Islam: Supporters Of Peace And Enlightenment,

Ijtihad, Rethinking Islam
New Age Islam: Supporters Of Peace And Enlightenment
The word Muslim is usually thought of as synonymous with terrorism. According to Webster’s New World Dictionary, the definitions of Muslim and terrorism are a follower of Islam and the use of force or threats to intimidate, respectively. According to Islamic history, Islam had come to the world to fight the Jahiliya; however, the use of Jahiliya has been ignored for centuries.

New Age Islam is a group of Muslims living in the Middle East and North America who find the thought of supporting Jahiliya completely unacceptable. Promoting non-violence across the globe, this movement desires to align work that enables the sharing of enlightenment with others and to educate young people about the dangers of being susceptible to misinterpreted beliefs including activities that endanger other Muslims as well as innocent people.

Of utmost importance is the constant emphasis on the Islamic spiritual traditions of tolerance, pluralism and acceptance of multinational-cultures.

The following historical passages, taken directly from www.newageislam.com/NewAgeIslamAboutUs.aspx, serves as a reminder of divine wisdom that illuminates a way to live in peace and harmony with all living things.

The problem of caste among Indian Muslims, Islamic Society, NewAgeIslam.com

Islamic Society
The problem of caste among Indian Muslims

Ayesha reported that the Holy Prophet used to mend his shoes, sew his clothes and work in his household just as one of you works in his own house. She also reported that he was a man among men who used to patch his clothes, milk his goats and engage himself in work. [Tirmidhi]

Zubari-b-Awam reported that the Messenger of Allah said: That one of you takes his rope and then comes with a load of wood upon his back and sells it, and that thereby Allah guards his face, is better for him than that he should beg of men whether they give him or refuse him. [Bukhari]

Meqdam-b-Ma’de Yakrab reported that the Messenger of Allah said: Never has any one eaten a better food than what he has eaten out of the labour of his own hands; and David, the Prophet of Allah, used to eat out of the labour of his own hands. [Bukhari]

Utbah-b-Munzir reported. We were near the Messenger of Allah when he recited – ‘Twa, Sin, Mim’, till he reached the story of Moses. He said: verily Moses engaged himself as a labourer for nine or ten years on condition of keeping his private parts chaste and of food for his belly. [Musnad Ahmed Bin Hanbal and Ibn Majah]

Ayesha reported that the Holy Prophet said: The purest of what you eat come from your own earnings, and your children come from your own earnings. [Tirmidhi, Nas'ai and Ibn Majah]

Abu Zarr reported that the Messenger of Allah said; O Abu Zarr! There is no wisdom like efforts, no piety like self-denial and no goodness like good conduct. [Bukhari]

Intelligent Design And The Scientific Appreciation Of Nature in the Islamic perspective

Taskhîr, Fine-Tuning, Intelligent Design And The Scientific

Appreciation Of Nature

By Adi Setia

The concept of taskhîr in the Qur'ân refers to the easily observable fact that nature, in both its cosmic and biospheric dimensions, has been constrained by Allah to render service and benefit unto humankind. In modern cosmological terms, taskhîr refers to the high degree of fine-tuning of the design-parameters of the universe for the support of life on earth, and ultimately, conscious and intelligent human life. Through taskhîr, the perfection of Allah's wisdom (hikmah) is manifested in the phenomenal world, and His Grace (fadl) realized for humanity. The service rendered to mankind by the Divine subjugation of nature is ultimately not only physical and material in nature, but also intellectual, moral and metaphysical in its significance: that humanity would be brought to recognize, acknowledge and glorify their Creator, and thus to realize fully the enduring transcendent meaning of their fleeting, phenomenal life on earth. Axiologically, this means that Islamic science is less utilitarian than intellecto-moral, and hence, the "outer" utilitarian dimension of science is to be subsumed under, and guided by, its "inner" intellecto-moral dimension, and not vice-versa.
