(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Taliban militants from Afghanistan side fired missile on scared day of Eid on Pakistani Village Shalozan murdering a Shia women two children and injuring eight others.
The Taliban militants fired a series of missiles on Pakistani territory Pak Afghan border Kurram Agency village Shalozan from mountainous area just three kilometers away on border.
Majority of missiles hit on trees but two three different missiles hit the Shiite's houses murdering a Shia women two children and injuring eight other people, some of the injured conditions are critical. Ironically when these injured were brought to hospitals the hospitals have lack of basic life saving medicines due to siege that is why they were sent back to their homes.
The social political circles and tribal elders of Kurram Agency condemned this brutality on scared day of Eid.
Meanwhile in Parachinar the headquarter of Kurram Agency tribal elders(Shia Leaders) belonging to Turi & Bangash tribes protested after Eid day against what they told as state terrorism and step mother treatment.
Earlier the Eid prayers held in Central Eidgah of Parachinar where more than fifty thousand people participated and prayed in open air Eidgah in the outskirts of city near airport. Ulema and tribal elders while addressing the Eid prayers and after that protest demonstrations told that Parachinar is under continuous siege for last four years.
The People of Parachinar in different parts of country & abroad did not celebrated Eid in their homeland for last four years while people with in Parachinar are celebrating Eid for last four years under siege & economic blockade.
They told that a week ago when sugar prices within country raised to more than Rs100/-per kg then all stake holders give continuous coverage for the issue while the people of Parachinar for last four years are purchasing Sugar above Rs 130/ -per kg due to imposed siege ,similarly other commodities in twice rates then rest of country but no one raised and addressed this issue is the proof of dual policy.
In the end of Eid prayer and protest demonstrations certain resolutions were passed demanding the govt. to immediately open and secure the main hall Parachinar road, resuming PIA Flights starting Cadtet College in Parachinar and termination plus court martial of commandant FC Col Tausef who supported the Haqani group Taliban militants attack on village Shalozan two months ago and still silent taking no action against the missiles attack of Taliban from Afghanistan side to village Shalozan on today Eid day.

Militants demand France pullout from Afghanistan for hostage safety

France must pull its troops from Afghanistan if it wants to ensure the well-being of five French nationals taken hostage in Niger, the head of al Qaeda's north African wing said.
"If you want safety for your citizens who are held captive by us, then you must move quickly to take your soldiers out of Afghanistan according to a specific time table that you announce officially," said Abu Musab Abdul-Wadud, the head of al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb in an audio message broadcast on Al-Jazeera television Wednesday.
The group has said it is responsible for the five French citizens who were kidnapped in September.
The five were among seven people linked to a French nuclear energy company who were abducted in the northern town of Arlit in Niger. The other two are from Togo and Madagascar.
Areva has been mining uranium for decades in Niger, one of the poorest countries in the world.
In a televised interview with reporters Tuesday, French President Nicolas Sarkozy urged citizens not to visit areas where al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghrib operates.
"The situation on the terrorism front is troubling. I do not want to alarm the French," he said. "But, we will not change even an iota of our policies because we are threatened."
France has already said it may begin to withdraw some troops from Afghanistan next year.
Minister Herve Morin told French radio station RTL in late October that France will begin to transfer the control of certain districts to Afghans in 2011.
"There is a fixed date by NATO in the framework of its new strategy. That is the start of 2011," he said. "In 2011, we are going to transfer a whole series of districts to the Afghans."
"At this moment, there could be the first movements or withdrawal of allied forces from Afghanistan," Morin said.
France has 3,750 troops in Afghanistan, according to NATO's International Security Assistance Force.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Two car bombs aimed at Iranian pilgrims exploded near two of the holiest shrines for Shiite Muslims in Iraq on Monday, as Iraqi leaders met in an inconclusive effort to resolve their country’s long political deadlock.
The attacks, in the Shiite holy cities of Najaf and Karbala, killed at least 16 people and wounded more than 50 others. Buses carrying Iranian pilgrims appeared to be the targets of the bombs, though most of the dead were Iraqis.
Iraqi politicians have been meeting inside and outside the capital over the past two weeks to work out a power-sharing deal to break an eight-month political stalemate that has undermined many Iraqis’ faith in their government’s ability to deliver basic services and security.
Prime Minister Nuri Kamal al-Maliki, a Shiite, appears within reach of securing another term as Iraq’s leader, but there are still many unresolved questions about which constituencies would claim other leadership posts and control of key ministries.
“Iraq suffers from many problems that require forming a strong government that includes all,” Vice President Adel Abdul Mahdi said.
A cleric in Najaf, Sheik Majid al-Najafi, said the day’s violence had represented an effort to fracture the country along sectarian lines and unsettle Iraq’s relationship with Iran. “They are targeting Christians, Shiites, Sunnis and pilgrims coming from outside Iraq,” Sheik Najafi said.
There was no claim of responsibility for either attack.
On Monday, the first attack came about 8:30 a.m. in Karbala, striking near a bus carrying Iranian pilgrims at one of the city’s main entrances, a choke point where traffic slows to a crawl. Nine people were killed and 34 were wounded.
Karbala is home to the Shrine of Imam Hussein, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad and one of Shiite Islam’s revered figures, and since the fall of Saddam Hussein in 2003 has become a destination for millions of pilgrims from Iraq and Iran.
Three hours after the first attack and about 50 miles to the south, a second car bomb rattled the old city of Najaf near a crowded police checkpoint.
The bomb exploded several hundred yards from the gold-domed Shrine of Imam Ali, the son-in-law of the Prophet Muhammad
Seven people were killed in that bombing, the police said, and witnesses said it, too, appeared to be a strike at Iranian visitors to the shrine. Rasool Mohammed Hassan, a police officer, said he was alone at the checkpoint when a car driving slowly past buses exploded, setting cars ablaze.
On Monday night, five more people were killed after another car bomb exploded in Basra, ripping through an area where automobile dealers sell new cars, the local police said. The blast, which occurred a short distance from a military checkpoint, wounded 30 people and destroyed a number of cars.

Muslim students were suspended from school for making death threats to a classmate because of a loving tribute he made to British soldiers on Facebook. Typical? Yes. Getting worse, more emboldened? Certainly. But the money quote came for the school Principal ---

So Facebook is the problem? The method of delivery is the problem, but not the nature of the death threat. Delusional. It is also interesting to note that the grammar and spelling of the Muslim students borders on illiterate. What are they doing there? What happens to this boy now, after the limelight of media moves on? His life is in jeopardy.
Further, it is the counter-jihad groups, like the EDL, that are demonized by the media and political elite with nary a criticism for would-be annihilators inspired by jihad.

Shockingly, other pupils - who have set up a Muslim Defence League which celebrates British deaths in Afghanistan - also added comments condemning Daruis.
Fortunately Darius' mother Clare Allington read the comments on Monday morning - the day of the promised attack - and immediately pulled her son out of school.
Yesterday Clare, 42, from Coventry, said: 'I logged on and it broke my heart. I was reading all sorts about knuckle dusters, knives and death.
'They were planning to attack him at school that day so I rang the school straight away.
'I usually keep an eye on what Darius posts on Facebook.
'I have his password and usually check it every day but didn't last weekend until I was at the Warwick University campus on Monday.
'If I hadn't read the threats and pulled my son out of school he could be dead.
'They might just be school children but they are fanatical and dangerous. The threats have to be taken seriously.
The children were excluded from the Sidney Stringer Academy in Coventry following the Facebook bullying campaign
'My son wrote supporting the British troops in Afghanistan and also said he was sad so many soldiers had died.
'The so-called Muslim Defence League which has been set up in the school by a number of pupils believe that Darius should join them in hating British soldiers.
'It's appalling and extremely upsetting for Darius.'
Shockingly, one of the thugs bragged about being quizzed by police and still threatened to attack Darius.

Amnesty urges release of Pakistani Christian woman

ISLAMABAD: International human rights advocate Amnesty International has joined calls for the release of Pakistani Christian woman Asia Bibi who has been sentenced to death under the country’s blasphemy laws.
Amnesty International on Friday also called on Pakistan to revise the law under which mother of five Asia Bibi was convicted this month.
The case stems from a dispute between Bibi and a group of Muslim women over the use of a water bowl. The other women accused her of making derogatory remarks against the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH). She has been in prison for one-and-a-half years and her case has been appealed.
Pope Benedict XVI on Wednesday urged Pakistan to release Asia.
The case has drawn attention to blasphemy laws, which critics say are used to persecute religious minorities.

In this village in Pakistan's Punjab province a tearful 12-year-old girl ponders if the Pakistani government will soon hang her mother.
"Whenever I see her picture I cry," Isham Masih told CNN. "I want my mother back. That's what I'm praying for."
This month a Pakistani court sentenced Isham's mother, 45-year-old Asia Bibi, to death, not because she killed, injured or stole, but simply because she said something.
Prosecutors say Bibi, who is a Christian, broke Pakistan's strict blasphemy law by insulting Islam and the prophet Muhammad, a crime punishable by death or life imprisonment according to Pakistan's penal code.

India summons Iranian envoy over Kashmir remarks

NEW DELHI: India on Friday summoned the Iranian charge d' affaires and conveyed its "deep disappointment" over comments on Kashmir emanating from Tehran.
"We have conveyed to the Iranian authorities our deep disappointment and regret that they have chosen to disregard our sensitivities and chosen to question our territorial sovereignty," a government source said.
The government reaction came to the message of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei to Haj pilgrims in which he has appealed to the Muslim elite worldwide to back the "struggle" in Jammu and Kashmir, equating the state with the "nations" of Afghanistan, Iraq and Pakistan.

UNSC hasn't discussed Kashmir in 45 yrs

NEW DELHI: The "India-Pakistan question", which is a euphemism for the Kashmir question, was last discussed in the UN Security Council in 1965 having been first raised in 1948. Since then the Security Council has not discussed the issue.
Earlier this week, the Pakistan envoy to the UN, Amjad Sial, opened the lid on what is probably the worst kept secret in the UNSC -- that Kashmir as an issue has not been raised in the Council for almost half a century, even during the worst of India-Pakistan relations.
The Pakistan envoy protested in the General Assembly earlier this week that the Kashmir issue was "missing" from the UNSC annual list, describing it as an "inadvertent error." Indian diplomats maintained that it was not inadvertent at all, but that the Kashmir issue was a "dead letter".

MECCA, Saudi Arabia Nov 18 (Reuters Life!) - Saudi Arabia's religious police keep such a low profile during the haj, it's hard to imagine that you are in Islam's holiest city.
The kingdom, where Islam first emerged around 1,400 years ago, applies a strict form of Sunni Islamic sharia law that imposes gender segregation, forces shops to close during prayer times and prohibits women from driving.
But in Mecca, the enforcement of many of these rules is relaxed during the haj, a duty for every able-bodied Muslim. And with the government investing billions of dollars in recent years to make pilgrimage safer and more comfortable, many pilgrims end up going home as goodwill ambassadors for the country.

Khaleda Zia vows to launch campaign to oust Hasina

Dhaka : Khaleda Zia, the leader of the Bangladesh's main Opposition BNP, has vowed to launch an all out campaign to oust the ruling Awami League party to defend the country's national interest.
66-year-old Zia, a former Bangladesh Prime Minister, told her party activists that "there is no other alternative but movement".
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, spokesman of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), said "there is no time to keep mum now".
"The government is trying to eliminate BNP. There is no time to keep mum now and we will not spare them (government) in this circumstance,- he told reporters on Thursday at the party's office.

Washington : Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) is a profound dangerous group but not greater than al Qaeda, a top US official on counter-terrorism has said.
"Obviously, LeT is a profoundly dangerous group and its support that it derives from doing social services is like Hamas, is like Hezbollah, and is of course of great concern," Daniel Benjamin, State Department coordinator for counter terrorism said.
"I don't think I ever said LeT was more dangerous than al Qaeda, but it is certainly a very, very dangerous group.
That is why the work that we are doing with Pakistan, aside from the law enforcement cooperation -- and we have been very supportive of Pakistan's efforts to bring Mumbai perpetrators to justice," Benjamin told reporters in response to a question
He argued that it was critically important that Pakistan continue to develop its institutions and develop the ability to provide the services to its people so that other organizations with a radical agenda were not in there subverting the state.

India invited to be engaged in transition in Afghan: US

Washington : Aware of India's "genuine national security interest" in Afghanistan, the Obama Administration has said it has invited both New Delhi and Islamabad to be engaged and support the transition process in the war-torn nation; where US intends to transfer the security to Afghan forces by 2014.
"Our strategy is a regional strategy and we have invited, countries from Pakistan to India to be engaged in and support this transition in Afghanistan," State Department spokesman, P J Crowley, said in response to a question.
"That is perhaps the most significant change that we've put into effect over the last 18 months, almost two years, is to take it from being just about Afghanistan to being about the region as a whole," he said.
While the Obama Administration has been very appreciative of India's role in Afghanistan, this is possibly for the first time that a senior US official has said that India has been invited for the process in Afghanistan.

Muslim woman jailed for false burqa complaint

A burqa-clad Muslim woman was sentenced to six months jail by an Australian court for falsely accusing a police officer of removing her veil, a media report said.
Carnita Matthews, 46, of Woodbine in Sydney's south, was found guilty of knowingly making a false complaint relating to the event in June, Sydney Morning Herald reported.
The mother of seven was stopped in June by a police officer for a random breath test.
She later filed a police complaint alleging that the officer had tried to pull off her burqa, which concealed her entire face except for her eyes.
In Campbelltown Local Court, magistrate Robert Rabbidge said the evidence was 'overwhelming' that Matthews had submitted a false declaration to police.

Pak to arm jets with Chinese missiles

BEIJING: Pakistan will buy Chinese air-to-air SD-10 missiles and avionics to arm its 250 JF-17 Thunder fighter fleet, the country's air force chief has said, amid signs that the French had spurned an offer to equip them.
" Islamabad is seeking to deepen military cooperation with Beijing," air chief marshal Rao Qamar Suleman, chief of the Pakistani air force, told the Global Times, revealing that his country may also opt to acquire other advanced defence missile systems including Chinese surface to air missiles (SAM) systems.
Pakistan has opted to go in for full Chinese armament systems for the jointly developed fighters and Suleman, currently on a visit to China, told the paper that the advanced active radar and homing middle-range missile developed by China, called the SD-10 , will become the standard Beyond Visual Range (BVR) weapon of the JF-17 .

'Friend' Iran calls India a Zionist regime

NEW DELHI: Iran is a close friend of India, but that has not prevented its supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, from asking the world's Muslims to support the "struggle" in Kashmir against "Zionist regimes".
In his Haj message to pilgrims earlier this week, Khamenei said, "Today the major duties of the elite of the Islamic Ummah is to provide help to the Palestinian nation and the besieged people of Gaza, to sympathize and provide assistance to the nations of Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq and Kashmir, to engage in struggle and resistance against the aggressions of the United States and the Zionist regime, to safeguard the solidarity of Muslims and stop tainted hands and mercenary voices that try to damage this unity, to spread awakening and the sense of responsibility and commitment among Muslim youth throughout Islamic communities."

Iran says it tested new air defense missile system

TEHRAN: Iran has successfully tested a newly developed air defense missile system during the country’s biggest ever air defense drill, an Iranian military official said Thursday.
Gen. Hamid Arjangi, a spokesman for the five-day exercise, said the system — known as Mersad, or Ambush in Farsi — was developed by Iranian scientists and is capable of identifying and hitting targets at low and medium altitudes.
“This medium-range air defense system can identify and destroy modern planes flying at low or at medium altitudes,” Arjangi said, according to the state IRNA news agency.
He described the Mersad, which allegedly is already being mass produced, as a valuable asset in defending Iran’s air space from planes or drones flying at those altitudes.
Arjangi did not elaborate.

Haeider wins war-torn Iraq's first medal of the Games

GUANGZHOU: Haeider Hamarasheid won war-torn Iraq's first medal of the 2010 Asian Games on Friday, picking up a rowing bronze, and said he hoped it would set an example for young people in his homeland.
Hamarasheid finished the men's single sculls in 7:10.10, some five seconds behind gold medalist Bajrang Takhar of India with Taiwan's Wang Ming-hui second.
"I'm so happy and excited because this is the first medal for Iraq at the Asian Games," he said. "This achievement will encourage young people in Iraq.

(November 18, Dhaka, Sri Lanka Guardian) Since banning of notorious Islamist militancy group Hizbut Tahrir in Bangladesh, Bayejid Khan Panni alias Selim Panni, the founder and kingpin of Jihadist group named Hizbut Towhid has become extremely active in establishing broader links with Al Qaeda, Loshkar-e-Toiba and many other regional Jihadist terror outfits, with the ulterior motive of waving ‘Islamic Revolution’ in Bangladesh.
Hizbut Towhid head office is located in Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka at House No. 4, road no. 18, sector no. 7, Uttara. Selim Ponni, claims himself to be ‘Imam-uz-zaman', by placing him just behind the prophet of Islam. He terms working women as and women in politics as 'prostitutes' and gives his own 'Islamic Code' for men to marry any number of wives. His interpretation is, “women are created only for sexual pleasure of men and this is their only task”.

Sharia Scare Threatens Religious Freedom

Much of the news media seemed bemused or bewildered when Sharron Angle warned of an Islamic-law takeover in America during her unsuccessful bid to unseat Sen. Harry Reid.
Angle was widely ridiculed for citing Frankford, Texas (a town that no longer exists), and Dearborn, Mich. (with a large population of Arab-Americans living under American law), as examples of the imposition of Islamic or sharia law.
On Election Day, Angle lost in Nevada. But a thousand miles away in Oklahoma, voters took the issue seriously and adopted a state constitutional amendment barring courts from considering sharia law or international law when deciding cases. The amendment passed with 70 percent of the vote.
Although sharia has never been an issue in an Oklahoma court, supporters of the amendment point to England, where sharia courts can arbitrate Muslim civil disputes, provided all parties agree to participate. And they cite a New Jersey court decision that considered sharia law in denying a restraining order to a woman who alleged that her husband had raped her. That decision was swiftly overturned by an appellate court because, under the First Amendment, religion cannot excuse criminal conduct.

Al-Qaeda ideologue held in Syria

ISLAMABAD - The al-Qaeda ideologue responsible for formulating strategy in the South Asia war theater, and who also instigating a rebellion against the Pakistani armed forces among Pakistani tribesmen and jihadi militants in the cities, has been languishing in a Syrian prison for the past several months.
Seventy-year-old Egyptian Abu "Amr" Abd al-Hakim Hassan, popularly known as Sheikh Essa, was arrested in Syria in 2009 and, according to high-profile intelligence sources, is in a poor state of health.
His presence confirms that a sizeable number of al-Qaeda leaders have now moved to the Middle East to turn neighboring Iraq into
their strategic backyard and to ensure that the insurgency there flares up once again.
Essa's presence would normally be sufficient to launch a movement for a revolution in any country, but today he is sick and contained in a dark and small detention center in Damascus, where he was arrested, a senior Pakistani security official told Asia Times Online on the condition of anonymity.

Likening Anwar to "a catfish in a muddy pool which knows little else other than to sting," Rais said, the opposition leader had been all too eager to criticise the country, including belittling the recognition given to Malaysia as a modern Islamic nation.

In the past 2300 years, Iranians have witnessed many brutal invasions because of their geopolitical significance. From Alexander to Mongolians to Turks to Angelo-Russo alliance, Iranians have suffered greatly as they picked up the pieces and rebuilt their country from countless destructions and mayhem. But for the most part, those invasions were put to rest in Iran’s history.
The one incursion, however, that has yet to come to a conclusion is the Muslim Arab invasion beginning in the 7th Century. An invasion that outlasted all other foreign assaults by using a more creative strategy in maintaining its hold on Iran’s natural and cultural resources for its benefit by infiltrating not only physical borders of the nation; but it’s language, heritage, and identity as well as the forceful assumption of Iran’s great achievements under the falsely coined umbrella term — “Islamic Civilization.”

LONDON, England (CNN) -- They are cursed in cities and towns across Europe. On talk shows, in newspapers and in bars and cafes, they are dismissed as parasites, threatening social norms and culture. And when unemployment rises and governments impose cuts on public spending, the eyes turn again to the immigrants.
In France, once seen as a bastion of European egalitarianism, the issue of immigration and racial identity has shot to the top of the political agenda. Roma people, also known as gypsies, have been expelled under government orders, while the wearing of burqas and other Islamic face coverings in public is set to be banned.
President Nicolas Sarkozy has been accused of engaging in Nazi-style ethnic cleansing over the expulsions while the European Commission has threatened to take legal action over the treatment of the Roma.

While naming the usual suspects China and Pakistan among nations with dodgy record on religious freedom and tolerance, the US on Wednesday added a new entrant to that club -Western Europe.
“Several European countries have placed harsh restrictions on religious expression,“ said Secretary of state Hilary Clinton releasing the Annual Report on Internatiaonl Religious Freedom on Wednesday.
China remains on that list for continuing to ban or restrict certain religious persons, acts and organisations. The report cites Tibetan Buddhists, Muslims Uighurs, Christians as typical examples.
About Pakistan, the report said, “The government took some steps to improve its treatment of members of religious minorities, but serious problems remained.“

"My son, daughter and grandchildren will come from different parts of Ningxia to have a family lunch with me. Then we will visit other relatives and friends," said Liu.
In Qinghai Province, also in the northwest, many Muslims began to gather at the Dongguan Mosque in the provincial capital Xining before 8 a.m. Tuesday. By 9 a.m., roads outside the mosque were packed with pious Muslims.

US to deploy tanks in Afghan war: Washington Post

WASHINGTON: The United States is sending battle tanks to Afghanistan for the first time in the nine-year-old war against the Taliban, the Washington Post reported on Friday.
Citing unnamed US officers and defense officials, the paper said General David Petraeus, commander of the US and NATO forces in Afghanistan, approved the deployment last month.
"The deployment of a company of M1 Abrams tanks, which will be fielded by the Marines in the country's southwest, will allow ground forces to target insurgents from a greater distance -- and with more of a lethal punch -- than is possible from any other US military vehicle," the Post said.

Al-Qaida ask France to negotiate with Osama

DUBAI: Top commander of al-Qaida's north African wing, holding five French hostages, has demanded that negotiations for their release must be directly held with the terror networks' supreme leader Osama Bin Laden.
Abu Musab Abdel Wadoud, who also demanded withdrawal of French forces from Afghanistan, made the offer in an audio tape broadcast on Al Jazeera.
"The summary of this message is clear. Any negotiations for the return of the hostages should be carried out directly with Al Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden and according to his conditions", said the voice of Abdel Wadoud.
The message gave no instructions on how Bin Laden who is believed to be holed up in mountains somewhere along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border should be reached and comes weeks after a message by Bin Laden himself broadcast over the radio slammed the French for sending troops to Afghanistan and passing a law to ban Islamic veil.

'Brit Muslims, Hindus hijacking Christmas'

London : Residents of Rochdale, a large market town in Greater Manchester, England, have expressed anger and dismay over local Muslims and Hindus “hijacking” the forthcoming Christmas celebrations festivals with their own popular festivals such as “Eid” and “Diwali”.
According to the Daily Star, angry Christian residents have rejected the Rochdale Council view of maintaining the lights of Christmas, Eid and Diwali together to “represent the community”, even though celebrations of the latter two have already finished.
Councillors are said to be anxious not to offend other faiths.
One angry father told the Daily Star: “It’s like Christmas is being hijacked. It’s mad. Why do we have these lights up for Eid and Diwali when they’ve finished?

Cuban leader Fidel Castro hints he may resign as party chief

HAVANA: Cuban leader Fidel Castro has suggested he may resign as Communist Party chief, his last leadership post, as he praised his brother Raul's management of the country.
"I got sick and did what I had to do -- delegate my powers. I cannot do something that I am not capable of dedicating full time to," Castro told a group of students on Wednesday, state-run press said Thursday.
Castro said he was not speaking to them as first secretary of the ruling communist party but rather as a "soldier of ideas."
"I did not hesitate even a second to put aside my responsibilities," said the 84-year-old, who has kept busy writing and participating in academic meetings in recent years.
After ruling Cuba for nearly half a century, Castro provisionally ceded power to his younger brother, Raul Castro, in July 2006 following intestinal surgery, and officially resigned the presidency in February 2008.

Lean & mean: LeJ splits into 8 smaller cells

ISLAMABAD: The Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ), a notorious anti-Shia militant group accused of having links with al-Qaida , has split into at least eight cells to better coordinate its activities across Pakistan, according to a news report.
"The creation of the cells is aimed at coordinating the banned group's activities in the area ranging from the southern port city of Karachi to Waziristan in the restive tribal belt bordering Afghanistan ," the Express Tribune newspaper quoted its sources as saying.
"With scattered cells, they have better chances of survival by diverting the focus of law enforcement agencies," an intelligence official said.

The Maharashtra government today informed the Bombay High Court that it had not accorded permission to National Investigating Agency (NIA) to interrogate Pakistani gunman Ajmal Kasab in the 26/11 case and that the agency wanted to question him in some other matter.
Government counsel Ujjwal Nikam submitted that NIA wanted to interrogate Kasab in some other case and not in the 26/11 terror attacks case.
Accordingly, justices Ranjana Desai and R V More disposed of a petition filed by Kasab asking whether NIA had registered an independent case against him and also if it would interrogate him in the 26/11 case.
Kasab, who has been awarded death sentence for his role in killing 166 people in the Mumbai attacks, also sought to know under what provisions Maharashtra had permitted NIA to question him.

US wants Pak to bring all behind 26/11 to justice

With the second anniversary of 26/11 approaching, the United States has said it is looking to Pakistan to bring all the perpetrators of the Mumbai attacks to justice even as it (Washington) works with all international allies to minimise the threat posed by Lashkar-e-Tayyeba.
Branding the LeT a “profoundly dangerous group”, US State Department’s Coordinator for Counterterrorism Daniel Benjamin told reporters: “We don’t want to see LeT filling that hole in the global extremism as Al Qaeda itself is diminished.”
“Obviously, LeT is a profoundly dangerous group and its support that it derives from doing social services is like Hamas, is like Hezbollah, and is of course of great concern,” Benjamin said, adding: “As the two-year anniversary of Mumbai approaches, we continue to work very closely with our interagency partners and international allies to reduce the threat from this very dangerous group.”

MINA: Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah reassured the world on Wednesday that he is in good health after doctors told him to rest because of a slipped disc. Nevertheless, many Pakistani pilgrims have added their best wishes to the Saudi monarch in their prayers.
“We feel especially attached to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah for thinking of us when we faced floods recently,” said Rehmatullah Nawaz Shah, a 54-year-old pilgrim from Sindh. “It was he who ordered a telethon for the flood victims, and Saudis rallied behind him to help Pakistan. Our television stations showed the enthusiasm with which Saudis took part in that telethon. The relationship between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan is not ordinary. Whenever we face a crisis, it is Saudi Arabia that comes to our rescue. We are praying for the good health and long life of King Abdullah.”

As Haj winds down, sale of animal skins picks up

MINA: The business of trading in animal skins — including skins of endangered creatures — was booming in the tent city of Mina.
Pilgrims were seen gathering at roadside shops to buy exotic animal skins and products made from them, including wallets, ladies' purses, handbags, belts, sandals, shoes and walking sticks.
Many of the species of animals whose parts have made their way into the after-Haj shopping frenzy are not only illegal to sell in Saudi Arabia but can also lead to stiff penalties and confiscations if discovered in luggage of people entering Europe, North America or other countries with a strict regime against the import of these products.
Still, the skins of these endangered or protected species are flaunted openly by merchants cashing in on the shopping bonanza that occurs as the Haj season winds down.

French convert seeks enlightenment at Haj

MINA: Abdul Aziz, a Frenchman who converted to Islam when he was a teenager, is something of an enigma.
The 25-year-old unmarried management graduate from the south of France was previously a Christian but refuses to divulge any more personal information, not even his previous first name, albeit for very valid reasons.
He says his country is not very open to different cultures and religions, which is quite ironic for a nation with a substantial Muslim community.
Abdul Aziz told Arab News he started questioning his faith from an early age.
“Since I was young, I used to think a lot about what there is after death,” he said. “So I did a lot of research. I didn’t find the answers to the questions (in Christianity).”

Hariri murder indictments 'in months' — UN envoy

UNITED NATIONS: A senior UN official said on Thursday he expected a court probing the assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Al-Hariri to issue indictments “in the coming months.”
Diplomats and Lebanese officials have been predicting privately that the potentially explosive indictments could come late this year or early next. Thursday’s comments by Michael Williams, UN special coordinator for Lebanon, were among the few public statements on the timing.
“I, like others, expect to see indictments from the special tribunal in the coming months,” Williams told reporters after briefing the UN Security Council on Lebanon. “I don’t know whether that’s next week or next year.”

Pakistan women beat Bangladesh; win first Asiad gold

GUANGZHOU: Pakistan created history Friday in crushing Bangladesh by 10 wickets to win the first-ever Asian Games women’s cricket tournament.
The victory handed Pakistan their first gold of the Guangzhou Games and prevented Bangladesh from claiming their country’s first ever at an Asiad.
The win comes as welcome relief at a time of major problems for the men’s game in Pakistan, which has been embroiled in spot-fixing and disciplinary issues for much of the past year.
Bangladesh’s total of 92 all out never looked enough as Pakistan openers Nida Rashid and Javeria Wadood made a positive start to their run chase, playing a full range of shots and looking to score at every opportunity.

Car accidents kill over 24,000 in Yemen since 2000

A recent report published by the Traffic Administration states that there have been 24,000 deaths and 175,000 wounded due to traffic accidents in Yemen since 2000 until April 2010.
The report, a copy of which was received by the Yemen Times, states that 91,000 of the wounded were seriously injured, with 19,000 of those ending up paralyzed. The economic cost of these accidents was almost YR 100 billion.
The accidents included collisions between cars and with motorbikes, accidents involving pedestrians, vehicles overturning, and collisions with obstacles. According to the report, driver error contributed wholly or partly to about 85 percent of the reported crashes. Other contributing factors included bad roads, old vehicles and weather conditions.

Homelessness in Yemen on the rise

Whole families have become homeless because of deteriorating living conditions. Around half of Yemen’s population is living below the poverty line and at least 40 percent of Yemen’s able manpower is unemployed.
After long hours working as a cleaning lady in a company, Asma, 18, continues her struggle to earn a living up until ten o’clock at night through begging. She stands for hours at street junctions appealing to the drivers to give her money which she will take home to her mother and younger siblings.
“I am the oldest child in my family, my father is mentally ill and cannot support us. This is why I have to be the breadwinner of my family,” she said with tears in her eyes.
Like Asma, there are many Yemeni children who had been forced to abandon their childhood and take up the responsibility of taking care of their families.
A recent report from the Ministry of Social Affairs states that there are around three million children suffering from poverty in Yemen, about 700,000 of them forced to work, beg and live on the streets in the last year.
