Arms for US embassy seized in Pakistan: report
Islamabad: Suspicious luggage containing bulletproof jackets and
weapons allegedly belonging to the US embassy was seized by police in Islamabad,
a media report said.
Islamabad police on Saturday intercepted at the Zero Point picket
here a suspicious vehicle which was found to be carrying cargo comprising M-16
rifles and magazines; 9 mm pistols and magazines, several pistol pouches,
compasses, radio sets, maps, knives, and other army articles, The Nation quoted
sources as saying.
The two carriers -- identified as Noushad and Lal Badshah -- were
arrested and during questioning disclosed that they were transporting these
weapons to the US embassy, the paper said quoting sources close to the
investigation.
The accused told the police that they had nothing to do with the
weapons. "The US embassy has just hired our services to transport this luggage,"
the police quoted them as saying.
The newspaper report also said that a number of officials of the US
embassy tried hard to secure the release of the weapons but the police refused
to oblige.
According to the report, the consignment was meant for one Gustovo
Ritschl of the US army. However, the accused did not have any permission from
the US embassy authorities.
Police sources said they also recovered "hundreds of pouches" of
different weapons besides body armour, CDs, cell phones and
sunglasses.

Headley dodges Indian investigators with law
Agencies
Washington: Pakistani-American terror suspect David Coleman Headley,
who allegedly acted as a scout for militants who plotted the Mumbai terror
attacks, is not cooperating with Indian authorities interrogating him in
Chicago.
Sources tell CNN-IBN Headley has been stalling officials of the
National Investigation Agency (NIA), giving them incomplete replies. Headley is
using the terms of his plea bargain and use the Fifth Amendment, an American law
which permits him to not implicate himself in a criminal investigation, to dodge
questions put to him.
Headley, an alleged supporter of the Pakistani militant group
Lashkar-e-Toiba, struck a deal with US authorities in a plea bargain that saved
him from the death penalty and extradition to India. The plea agreement had,
however, said Headley would cooperate with foreign authorities but can be
interviewed by them only on the US soil.
A PTI report filed on Saturday said the NIA team is headed by Loknath
Behera and it includes two Superintendents of Police and a special public
prosecutor.
The spokesman for the US embassy neither confirmed nor denied the
incident, the report said.
The police have registered a case. This is the third FIR registered
against US embassy personnel, the report said.

Police officials’ hand in Lahore mosque attacks?
Jun 6, 2010
LAHORE: Pakistani investigators probing last Friday’s ghastly terror
attacks on two Ahmadiyya mosques in Lahore’s Garhi Shahu and Model Town areas
have got some crucial leads in the case which point fingers towards the
involvement of some police officials deployed at both places of
worship.
According to sources, Muaaz, the militant who was nabbed alive during
the terror siege, has revealed several important facts which has now led the
investigators to believe that certain security officials were acting as
facilitators to the terrorists.
Muaaz said he and his other aides were directed to follow
instructions from a man named Rana. He revealed that Rana left them a few yards
from the Model Town mosque and told them that he will return soon.
“Rana returned in less than 10 minutes and was carrying two sacks
full of weapons on his motorcycle, which he handed over us and directed us to
start the operation,” the Daily Times quoted Muaaz, as revealing. Considering
that the terrorists commuted to and from the target places in such little time
and with such ease, bypassing several police pickets on their way, the role of
police officials in the terror attacks has certainly come under
scanner.
Investigations into the Jinnah Hospital attack earlier this week also
revealed that a terrorist received a bullet injury in his leg, however, he
managed to escape from the main entrance of the hospital.

To keep eye on Muslims, UK installs cameras
Jun 6, 2010
LONDON: Britain’s anti-terrorism authority has installed hundreds of
surveillance cameras in two Muslim-dominated areas to track people’s movements
and check crime.
About 150 automatic numberplate recognition (ANPR) cameras have been
installed in Birmingham’s two areas — Washwood Heath and Sparkbrook — to help
counterterrorism police tackle anti-social behaviour, vehicles and drug related
crimes.
Police sources said the initiative, codenamed Project Champion, is
the first of its kind in Britain that seeks to monitor a population seen as “at
risk” of extremism.
The project has principally been sold to locals but the cameras have
been paid for by a £3 million grant from the Terrorism and Allied Matters Fund,
which is administered by the Association of Chief Police Officers.

Egyptian men married to Israelis may lose citizenship
Jun 6, 2010
CAIRO: A top court here on Saturday directed the government to take
necessary steps to strip Egyptian men married to Israelis of their citizenship
as it upheld an earlier ruling over the issue amid growing resentment against
the Jewish state.
In a ruling that cannot be appealed, Judge Mohammed al-Husseini of
the Supreme Administrative Court on Saturday upheld last year's verdict of a
lower court that the interior minister must look into the cases of Egyptian men
married to Israeli women, and their children, in order to "take the necessary
steps to strip them of their nationality."
The court asked the government to consider each case
separately.

Pakistan's mosques, media and intolerance
By Zeeshan Haider
Jun 6, 2010
Pakistan has been fighting Islamist militants for years, but tough
measures are needed to overturn a system breeding religious intolerance after
the long failure of authorities to confront mullahs and hardline
groups.
Analysts say the notion of religious mistrust is deeply entrenched in
the predominatly Muslim country -- even in the school system -- and it is now up
to leaders to mobilise public.
Last week's massacre in the city of Lahore of more than 80 Ahmadis -
a minority religious sect deemed non-Muslim and heretical by the constitution -
has generated a heated debate in Pakistan, a U.S. ally, on how to tackle the
issue.

Thousands protest in London against Israel
06 Jun, 2010
LONDON, June 5: Several thousand people gathered outside Downing
Street in London on Saturday for an angry protest against the killings of nine
unarmed world peace activists on board the Gaza aid flotilla by Israeli armed
forces in the international waters of the Mediterranean this week.
The killings of unarmed world peace activists of Gaza-bound aid
flotilla had exposed the real faces of the state of Israel and its successive
governments and it was felt by the world community that they (Israelis) have had
no respect of international law and human rights.
Waving flags and placards and chanting loudly against the state of
Israel and its government, protesters urged the British government to step up
pressure on Israel following the deadly commando raid on the Gaza-bound aid
ships.

Pak School Expels Boy For Marriage
Jun 06th, 2010
A Pakistani pupil has been expelled from his private school for
getting married on the sly because teachers believe marital relations are
inappropriate playground talk. Ghairat Khan, a bearded seventh grader, is
registered as 13 years old and attends classes at the English-language Peshawar
Model School with 12 and 13-year-old boys, but insisted that he is
18.
It can be common for children to fall back several years at school in
parts of Pakistan and Khan said he married his 16-year-old cousin because his
father died and his mother was ill with asthma. Under civil law in Pakistan,
boys can marry at 18 and girls 16, but under Islamic law, younger unions are
permitted with parental consent.

Israel takes control of second aid ship
Jun 6, 2010
JERUSALEM: Israeli forces seized a Gaza-bound aid vessel swiftly and
without meeting resistance on Saturday, preventing it from breaking a naval
blockade of the Hamas-ruled territory days after a similar effort turned
bloody.
Israel has faced mounting international pressure to lift the blockade
since Monday’s deadly confrontation aboard a Turkish aid vessel headed for Gaza.
But it stood by the embargo — which it says is needed to prevent the Islamic
militant group from getting weapons — even as the Obama administration called
the current restrictions “unsustainable”.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu defended the blockade in remarks
following the takeover, saying it was meant to keep weapons out of the hands of
the Iranian-backed Hamas and he would “not allow the establishment of an Iranian
port in Gaza”.

A Pre-Emptive Strike Against Sharia Law
By Mark Schlachtenhaufen
06/06/2010
EDMOND -- State lawmakers say it`s a pre-emptive strike against
Sharia law, needed to prevent here what has happened in the United
Kingdom.
An Islamic leader says it`s another example of a rising tide of
anti-Islamic bigotry in America.
State Question 755, which likely will be on the ballot in November,
would make in-state courts rely on federal and state laws when deciding cases
and forbid courts from using international law or Sharia law when making
rulings.
The proposal, which has an Edmond connection, would amend Article 7,
Section 1 of the Oklahoma Constitution, and stems from House Joint Resolution
1056, dubbed the "Save Our State" amendment, passed during the just-finished
legislative session...
State Rep. Rex Duncan, R-Sand Springs, primary author of HJR 1056,
said Oklahoma is the first state to pass such legislation and he hopes other
states will follow.

Girls school without teachers for 20 years

PESHAWAR, June 5: The successive governments have failed to provide
teachers to a government girls’ primary school in Maira Urmar Miana area despite
the fact that it was built in 1989-90
The school building spreading over two kanals of land, is in

The Maira Urmar Miana is located some 15 kilometers from the capital

A resident of the locality told Dawn that when the government started

Flotilla attack: Israeli military, politicians play
blame-game
Jun 06 2010
Jerusalem: Amid mounting global criticism, Israel's military and
political leadership are at loggerheads blaming each other for the bungled
operation against the Gaza aid flotilla that left nine people dead and dozens
injured.
Insufficient intelligence available for the operation, which was
carried out by elite Naval commandos on May 31, also raised eyebrows on Israel's
spy agency Mossad's role for failing to properly judge the
situation.
Though Israel has been putting up a brave front outwardly justifying
its raid on the ship on the grounds of preserving its autonomy, but each of the
two sides – political leadership and military -- suspects the other of trying to
blame it for the fiasco and consequent crisis, daily 'Ha'aretz' reported on

Jirga shows the way ahead
6 June 2010
Afghan tribal elders have suggested the obvious. Urging President
Hamid Karzai to immediately open a line of communication with the Taleban, the
jirga has at least hinted at a way out of the mess. On the conclusion of the
three-day national peace talks in Kabul, tribesmen were unanimous in asking the
government to offer amnesty and job incentives to induce militants to give up
arms.
This is in contrast to the approach that the fragile government in
Kabul is exercising, by concentrating on capturing and eliminating all those who
differ with the order of the day. Karzai must heed to this piece of advice, as
the trigger-happy approach and successive hunt-and-flush operations have only
led to chaos and conflict in the region.

Nothing divine in child marriage

Early marriage can have serious harmful consequences for children.
The figures show that is a problem that crosses all races and states, raising
many disturbing questions that need to be answered.
Two months ago, there was public outcry over the marriage of two
little girls, aged 10 and 11 to much older men in Kelantan. It was two too many.
But now the 2009 data on pre-marital HIV screening, mandatory for all Malay
Muslim couples wanting to get married, shows that this problem is more prevalent
than expected.
Data in the 2010 progress report to the United Nations on HIV in

number of Muslim girls under the age of 14 who have undergone pre-marital HIV

In the midst of the darkness that engulfed the world, the divine
revelation echoed in the wide desert of Arabia with a fresh, noble universal

a single soul and from it created its mates (of same kind). From their twain has

The spiritual aspect, The Qur'an provides clear-cut evidence that
women are completely equal with men in the sight of God in terms of rights and
responsibilities.
The Qur'an states:
“Every soul will be (held) in pledge for its deeds.” (al – Qur'an,
