Baghdadi’s Islam Clashes with the Holy Prophet’s Islam over Eid

The self-styled Khalifa of the Muslims Abu Bakr Baghdadi has dealt another blow on Islam. He has issued a ‘fatwa’ declaring the Eid prayers and festivities un-Islamic. He says  that the festival of Eid does not have any basis in Shariat. Therefore, in Mosul and other areas under his rule, Eid prayers and festivities have been banned. Mosul which has shown the ruthless implementation of Baghdadi’s version of Islam and interpretation of the Quran justifying the rape of captured women will not observe or enjoy the breaking of fasting after the holy month of Ramzan.

Baghdadi’s ruling clashes head on with the tradition of Eid celebrations observed during the life of the holy prophet pbuh. It again proves that Baghdadi is an ignoramus with little knowledge of Islam or Islamic history and is out to destroy the culture and heritage of Islam and distort the original face of Shariat.

There are many Hadeess and accounts from the life of the holy prophet pbuh that establish the Eid prayers as part of Shariah and the Eid festivities as part of the Muslim culture. The two rikaat Eid prayer was observed by the holy prophet (pbuh) and his companions during the prophet’s lifetime . The holy prophet (pbuh) had also laid down principles and rules for observing the day of Eid and for celebrating the occasion.

During the prophet’s lifetime, the Muslims used to celebrate the occasion with whatever possessions they could manage. They arranged new clothes and tried to have the best meal on the day. They would exchange greetings and share food on the day after offering the two rikaats of Eid prayers. On the day, the holy prophet (pbuh) would bathe and have new clothes and apply surma (kohl) into his eyes and itr (a natural perfume oil) on his clothes. He would then proceed to the Eidgah with Zikr-i-Ilahi (remembrance of God) on his lips. At the end of the prayers, he would deliver a khutbah (speech) and then return home.

The holy prophet (pbuh) would also stress on the payment of Sadqatul fitr (charity tax) before going to offer Eid prayers.

A Hadees confirms this tradition of paying Sadaqa-tul-Fitr, also called Zakat-ul-Fitr (Obligatory Charity Tax After Ramzan):

Ibn Umar (RA) narrated that Allah’s Messenger (PBUH) would order paying Sadaqat-ul-Fitr before going to Salat on the day of Eid-ul-Fitr.
(Hadees No. 1509, Book of Zakat, Sahih Bukhari, Vol. 2; Hadees No. 677, Chapters on Zakat, Jami’-At-Tirmidhi, Vol. 2).

The two rikaat of Eid’s special prayers are also based on the holy prophet’s practice on the day. The following hadees confirms this.

Narrated Ibn Abbas (RA): The Prophet (PBUH) offered a two raka’at Salat on the day of Eid Al-Fitr and he did not offer any Salat before or after it. Then he went towards women along with Bilal (RA) and ordered them to give alms and so they started giving their ear-rings and necklaces (in charity).
(Hadees No. 964, Book of The Two Eid Festivals, Sahih Bukhari, Vol. 2).

The prophet pbuh also advised Muslims to eat something before going to Eidgah for prayers.

Narrated Anas bin Mālik (RA): Allah’s Messenger (PBUH) never proceeded for Salat (prayer) on the Day of Eid Al-Fitr unless he had eaten some dates. Anas also narrated: The Prophet (PBUH) used to eat odd number of dates.
(Hadees No. 953, Book of The Two Eid Festivals, Sahih Bukhari, Vol. 2).

The khutbah delivered at the end of the Eid prayers is also founded on the holy prophet’s tradition. There is a Hadees that confirms this.

Narrated Abdullah bin Umar (RA): Allah’s Messenger (PBUH) used to offer As-Salat of Eid Al-Adha & Eid Al-Fitr, and then deliver the Khutba after As-Salat.
(Hadees No. 957, Book of The Two Eid Festivals, Sahih Bukhari, Vol. 2).

All the Ahadees quoted above prove that the prayers of Eid and the festivities observed on the Day are very much part of Islamic Shariah and observed by the holy prophet (pbuh).

Therefore, Abu Bakr Baghdadi government’s ban on Eid prayers and festivities are a violation of Islamic Shariah and a violation of the established traditions of the holy prophet (pbuh). It only shows that Baghdadi is out to destroy Islam by presenting it only as a religion of violence and ruthlessness.
