Tehreek e Taliban Pakistan came into being under the patronage of Baitullah Mahmood in December 2007. It has declared two objectives of it at that time. First, it wanted to establish a Shariah-based order in Pakistan and secondly, to fight NATO in Afghanistan. Although Mahmood got killed in an army attack in 2009 this organization kept getting stronger with every passing day. Tehreek e Taliban Pakistan activities include, killing of Benazir Bhutto, Lal Masjid incident in which 105 people were killed, attack on Police Academy, Lahore, attack on Charsadda Military Academy in which 120 cadets lost their life and now the biggest attack on Mehran.
The most important question is: who is organising such fine training that they have started attacking not only the civil government but the Military itself? The region which is said to be their home is the one where America is engaged in Drone attacks. Availability of such master trainers does not seem possible there. So who is patronizing them and on whose orders these attacks are being made. None of the two declared objectives of the organistion seem to be getting fulfilled with what they are doing.
The situation at the moment after Abbottabad incident in Pakistan is that of a civil war. The whole of Pakistan is nothing but a battlefield, at the moment. The situation in Pakistan is like that of Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Yemen, Bahrain, Tunisia and Egypt where a battle is being fought in every street. What is their objective? Whose government do they wish to establish in the Islamic world? From every point of view, this fight is for the benefit of America and its western allies whom Pakistan takes as its compassionate friends since 1948. Pakistan has perhaps forgotten that international alliance is based on mutual benefit and not on emotions. If you yourself are not strong and powerful, friendship does not mean anything.
There are various groups of warriors, call Jihadist warriors, in Pakistan. Army and ISI take some of them as their allies, specially the groups which are active in Kashmir and Afghanistan. These groups are not a headache for them. But, the military has to take action, though unwillingly, against Tahreek e Taleban and other such groups which are active in the country as suicide bombers (fidayeen).
My plea is that terrorism of every kind is evil. Using it as a policy for achieving strategic objectives is dangerous. This will have to be abandoned.
After the killing of Osama bin Laden, ISI Chief, Shuja Pasha unnecessarily tried to hide his failures by highlighting his enmity against Indian. Pakistan threatened America as well. It said that it will take action if Drone attacks are not stopped. There is an India bashing in Pakistan media also. They try to involve India in these kinds of acts, without any proof. Pakistan is not going to get anything from such irrelevant and unnecessary propaganda. Mr. Pasha’s statements are unwise and incorrect from diplomatic point of view. On the very first day of Abbottabad, India had made it clear that it has no intention of making an Abbottabad like attack. President Obama has clearly expressed his views that if needed America will again do an Abbottabad.
After 2nd of May, Pakistan army and ISI’s capabilities or lack of them have been exposed with the Taliban-e-Pakistan attacks on various places especially at Mehran.
Now for Pakistan it is better to concentrate on its own trade and economy rather that boasting of its prowess in front of its neighbors. Pakistan should end its dependence on other countries. As far as India is concerned it has already made it clear that a stable Pakistan is in its interest. India is focused on achieving this goal.
