NEW DELHI: Today marked the launch of a new Urdu daily Jadeed Mail from Delhi. Under the editorship of seasoned journalist Zafar Agha, it is expected to fill a gap in the Delhi Urdu media, that of a forward-looking newspaper, seeking to guide the Muslims on lines of modernity. It is not just its name and the presence of a well-informed journalist as editor that gives us this hope. This newspaper is the translation of a dream into reality seen by philanthropist Haji Abdur Razzaq Marhoom whose son Mr. Abdul Malik will be running the show with the recent sudden death of his father. Haji Saheb is well-known in Haldawani, U. P. for running colleges and now a major madrasa that not only gives its students religious education but also arms them to face the world with a variety of vocational training, so that they do not become dependent on mosques and other madrasas for their upkeep as is the case with the products of other madrasas.
What also gives hope is that Mr. Zafar Agha has begun his innings as editor-in-chief with a front page editorial asking Muslim parents in Delhi to get their kids admitted into schools, even government-run schools, if they can’t afford to pay for the private ones. He started his write-up beautifully explaining the meaning and significance in Islam of the first word revealed to Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) Iqra (meaning: Read). He bemoans the fact that despite Islam’s overwhelming stress on education, Muslims constitute the most uneducated section of the country. -- New Age Islam Edit Desk

By New Age Islam Edit Desk NEW DELHI: Today marked the launch of a new Urdu daily Jadeed Mail from Delhi. This newspaper is the translation of a dream seen by philanthropist Haji Abdur Razzaq Marhoom whose son Mr. Abdul Malik will be running the show with the recent sudden death of his father. The Urdu daily from New Delhi, Sahafat’s editorial today deals with the tragic assassination of Pakistan’s senior political figure and the governor of Punjab Salman Taseer on January 4. The paper writes: “The assassination of the governor of West Punjab Salman Taseer by his security guard was a horrible act. Killer after killing him threw the weapon on the ground and raising his hand said that he had no regrets for the murder because he was opposing the blasphemy laws of Pakistan and so he considered him an infidel . It shows how far religious fanaticism can take a normal human being. In his madness, he forgot the fact that punishing the kafir was not the job of human beings. The Prophet (PBUH) on whose name this cold blood murder was committed did not punish people who insulted him in his life. He was so merciful and lion-hearted that he had forgiven Hindah who had chewed on the lungs of his uncle Hadhrat Hamza (R.A.). Salman Taseer had vigorously opposed the death sentence pronounced on Asia Bibi who was a mother of five little children. A prominent leader of Pakistan People’s Party Ms Sherry Rehman has also opposed the laws. She has even presented a bill in Pakistan’s National Assembly for the amendment in the blasphemy laws. The human rights groups are supporting Ms Rehman on this issue. After the assassination of Salman Taseer, her life is also in danger. There is a great similarity between the assassinations of Mr Salman Taseer and Indira Gandhi. Mrs Gandhi had also been a victim of the religious fanaticism of her bodyguard. Salman Taseer was a man of a colorful personality. His father Dr Deen Mohammad Taseer was one of the founders of the Progressive Movement in Urdu literature. He had founded the Progressive Movement with Dr Rasheed Jahan. Sajjad Zaheer and Faiz were among his friends. He had married a German lady who was the sister of Faiz’s wife Ellis. Salman Taseer was a successful businessman, and a senior leader of the PPP. He had married an Indian journalist Tavleen Singh from whom he had a son, Atish Taseer. Atish Taseer was born in India but since Salman Taseer had left Tavleen even when was in his mother’s womb, Aatish is unhappy with his father. Aatish is in London and has become a successful novelist and playwright. Salman Taseer had inherited the love of writing and study from his father. He had written some books. His political biography of the former Prime Minister Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto was widely appreciated.” The Urdu daily Rashtriya Sahara’s editorial deals with the soon to be tabled Lok Pali Bill and the UPA government’s serious initiatives to contain the growing spread of corruption In the country. The paper writes that a number of big scams and scandals rocked the country in the previous year causing a lot of financial loss and damage to the country’s image. It says that the government is going to form a ministerial group of 8 ministers which will give a final shape to the Lok Pal Bill Ordinance and an anti corruption mechanism. It says: “For the first time the bill has given permission to an ordinary citizen to submit his complaint about the Prime Minister, ministers and MPs to the Lok Pal who will complete an inquiry within six months. According to the draft bill, the complainant will have to send his complaint to the Speaker of the Lok Sabha and the inquiry into the allegations against him will be initiated only after his approval. The process for inquiry against MPs and ministers will be the same as for the PM. If the PM is from Rajy Sabha, then the approval of the Chairman will be necessary for the inquiry. The Lok Pal will submit the report on PM to the Speaker who will table it in the Parliament as soon as possible. According to the bill, if the Parliament is not in session during that time, the report will have to be tabled within one week of the beginning of the next session.” Urdu daily Hamara Samaj is also concerned with the corruption in the country. It discusses the ramifications of the petition filed in the Supreme Court seeking the removal of the former Chief Justice of India K G Balakrishnan from Human Rights Commission. It asks the question if any public official can be held responsible for the corruptions and sins of their kin. If the answer is in yes, it says, then the list of the guilty people will be very long. The Hindustan Express has dealt with the issue close to the heart of the ordinary people that is price rise which has made life difficult for the poor and the middle class. It also regrets the inability of the government to contain the growing prices of the essential commodities as the income of the masses is not increasing with the prices.
