His literary works, including "Kako Ki Kahani Alma Ki Zubani," enriched Urdu literature and immortalized Kako's heritage. Main Points: 1. Alma Shamsi was born in Viceroy's House, and his educational background includes studying at Kako, Jamia Millia Islamia, and Aligarh Muslim University, under the mentorship of Dr. Zakir Husain. 2. A student of Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia, he played an important role in India's Socialist Party along with other notable leaders. 3. Wrote "Aligarh Muslim University Aur Meri Dastan-e-Hayat" and "Kako Ki Kahani Alma Ki Zubani," honoring the Urdu literature and legacy of Kako. 4. He documented and propagated the history, culture, and customs of Kako through his literature and poetry. 5. Among its most notable figures is Syed Latif Shamshi, affectionately known as Alma Shamsi. His life and work have left a profound impact on the cultural, political, and literary landscapes of India, especially within the realm of Urdu literature. Early Life and Education According to Syed Asif Imam Kakvi, Alma Shamsi was born as Syed Latif Shamshi was born in the Viceroy's House (now Rashtrapati Bhavan), in a family of distinction. His father, A. D. Shamsi, was the personal secretary to the Viceroy and the first Indian to hold this position. Alma Shamsi's early education was grounded in his native village, Kako, after which he pursued higher studies at Jamia Millia Islamia and Aligarh Muslim University. He was a scholar and completed Master's in Political Science under the guidance of third President of India, Dr. Zakir Husain. It was during AMU that Alma Shamsi showcased his natural leadership qualities through the student union where he led as its president. He was a disciple of Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia and made great contributions to the Socialist Party, working with other leaders such as Indira Gandhi, George Fernandes, Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna, and Karpoori Thakur. Literary Contributions Alma Shamsi was not only a political figure but also a prolific writer and poet. His literary works remain integral to Urdu literature. Two of his most notable books, "Aligarh Muslim University Aur Meri Dastan-e-Hayat" and "Kako Ki Kahani Alma Ki Zubani," both published by Educational Publishing House, Delhi in 2022, reflect his intellectual depth and love for culture. "Aligarh Muslim University Aur Meri Dastan-e-Hayat" provides an insight into his personal life within the campus, depicting the importance of the university in his life. "Kako Ki Kahani Alma Ki Zubani" is a kaleidoscope documentation of Kako's history, culture, and heritage, through Alma Shamsi's passion for his roots. Alma Shamsi's poetic dedication to Kako is embodied in his couplet: "Kako Mujh Par Fida Main Fida-e-Kako Kis Aasman Ki Taqat Hai Ki Humse Chhudaye Kako" Legacy of Vision and Integrity Alma Shamsi’s life was a blend of literary brilliance, political engagement, and cultural advocacy. Known for his integrity, vision, and leadership, he was a source of inspiration to many in Kako and beyond. His ability to unite people and his commitment to social welfare made him a revered figure in his community. Passing of a Luminary Alma Shamsi, 90 years old at the time, passed away in his ancestral village of Kako on January 8, 2025. It was a good life with much distinction but also one where the impact that continues to linger is in the hearts of the many who benefited from his work. A Tribute to Alma Shamsi So I, the resident of Bihar and the fraternity of literature lost this extraordinary character. His presence will continue on through his thoughts and services done to humanity, though.
