Jamiat Ulema Pakistan rally to mark Khatme Nabuwat centenary

By Dawn Staff Reporter LAHORE, May 23: The Jamiat Ulema Pakistan (JUP) staged a rally here on Friday to mark 100 years of Khatme Nabuwat Movement. Led by JUP Secretary-General Qari Zawwar Bahadur, the participants marched from Jamia Naeemia in Garhi Shahu to Data Darbar and from there to Minar-i-Pakistan. Carrying banners and placards, they were demanding enforcement of Islamic laws in the country which, they said, had been established in the name of Islam. Addressing participants at the Minar-i-Pakistan lawns, various speakers regretted that successive governments had failed to enforce Shariah in the country. Expressing their concern at reports that Israel was financing Ahmadis for their activities, they said Jews could never be friends of Muslims as was declared by Quran 14 centuries ago. They pledged to continue countering the propaganda of the Ahmadis presenting themselves as Muslims in various countries, especially in Africa. All Muslims strongly believe that Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) is the last and final messenger of Allah Almighty and he was sent for the welfare of all mankind, they said. The participants, most of them seminary students, later dispersed peacefully. Strict security arrangements had been made to avert any untoward incident.
