Throughout history, Muslim scholars and scientists have made ground-breaking contributions in fields such as medicine, astronomy, mathematics, and engineering. Many of the formulas, theories, and methods they developed are still in use today, forming the foundation of modern science and technology. Islam does not place any restriction on the positive use of technology. Instead, it emphasizes that technology should be used in ways that benefit society, protect human dignity, and promote justice and welfare. Tools, machines, and modern inventions are considered blessings from Allah, provided they are used for good purposes—such as education, healthcare, communication, and social development. However, Islam also warns against the misuse of technology. If technology is used to spread harm, injustice, or immorality, it becomes unacceptable. The key principle is that every invention should serve humanity as a whole, without discrimination, and should align with ethical and moral values. In short, Islam supports technological progress, but it must always be guided by wisdom, responsibility, and the intention to serve the common good. When technology is used positively, it becomes a powerful tool for building a better, more harmonious world. Positive Use of Technology is essential for Social Harmony: The 21st century has brought significant changes worldwide through technological inventions and modern knowledge. Technologies like Artificial Intelligence, which are making headlines today, also require serious attention. There are now so many forms of social communication and connection that we could not even imagine 25 years ago. These inventions have compelled societies to make use of them and join the list of active and progressive nations. The reality is that behind all these developments, we can see the greatness of the Creator, Allah, who has blessed human beings with such extraordinary abilities. It is He who inspires the human mind to invent new technologies so that societies can benefit from them. Unfortunately, we sometimes forget this and fall into the trap of being ungrateful. That is why remembering the Creator at all times is important. The question arises: What kind of impact do these inventions have on society? The answer is clear—if we use inventions and discoveries positively, they will bring benefits to society. But if we use them negatively, they will cause harm—leading to fear, hopelessness, and unrest. It depends on us whether we use technology for the development of society and national interest or for personal gain, which damages social unity. Civilized societies throughout history have never tolerated actions that create divisions or damage harmony. Modern technology creators should also understand how their products will affect social welfare. When things are developed with the intention of serving the nation, they have deep and positive effects on society. Achievements based on national interest and unity are recorded in history with pride. One recent example is Colonel Sophia Qureshi, who successfully led Operation Sindoor. Her remarkable achievement might not be appreciated by those with a negative mindset, but true national servants are heroes not just for their own community or religion—they make the entire nation proud. Balanced societies should always support such work that benefits the nation and the country, regardless of who does it. In a diverse country like India, what makes us stand out is the service that benefits the whole nation equally. This approach helps us progress further and should guide India’s future. We must remember that every civilization and religion values work done for the greater good. But when bias enters our actions and we move away from unity, such work—whether related to technology or any other field—is criticized by all cultures. Islam has never opposed the positive use of technology and modern means. In fact, many great scientists in history were Muslims, and today’s research often builds upon their theories and formulas. Every new technology affects society—changing its culture, ways of thinking, and approach to life. Sometimes this change is positive, and sometimes it leads people towards negative paths. We must understand that if a technology promotes knowledge, research, and investigation, it is surely a blessing for social welfare and national interest. But if it blocks knowledge and thinking, society must avoid it. Thanks to technology, globalization has become a reality. If you travel to another country today, you will see similarities in the thoughts, conversations, and clothing of young people everywhere. These are the effects of globalization. In history, there have always been people who opposed social change—sometimes in the name of religion, sometimes to protect social power, and sometimes out of fear of losing their position. But in the end, such people have always failed, and no one has been able to stop the changes brought by technology. Therefore, the positive use of technology is essential for social harmony and national interest, so that society can preserve its identity with full sensitivity and awareness. National Interest and Unity through Technology: Technology, when used wisely, can be a powerful force for strengthening national interest and promoting unity among citizens. In the modern world, advanced tools and innovations—such as the internet, artificial intelligence, transportation systems, and communication networks—help connect people, share ideas, and solve common problems. When these technologies are applied with the goal of serving the nation, they can create social harmony, boost economic growth, and improve the overall quality of life for everyone. A nation’s progress depends not only on technological development but also on how that technology is used. If innovations are directed towards education, healthcare, public safety, and infrastructure, they benefit all citizens equally, regardless of religion, language, or region. This equal access builds trust, reduces social divisions, and strengthens the feeling of belonging to one united nation. History shows that countries which have invested in technology for the public good—rather than for personal gain or narrow interests—have created strong, stable societies. In diverse nations like India, where people come from many cultures and backgrounds, technology can be a bridge that connects communities. Projects and inventions aimed at solving shared problems can inspire national pride and bring people closer together. In short, using technology for national interest means ensuring that its benefits reach everyone fairly, while promoting unity, equality, and collective progress. When guided by these values, technology becomes a tool not just for development, but for building a united and resilient nation. ---- Dr. Zafar Darik Qasmi is an Author and Columnist URL: https://www.newageislam.com/interfaith-dialogue/positive-technology-social-harmony/d/136492 New Age Islam, Islam Online, Islamic Website, African Muslim News, Arab World News, South Asia News, Indian Muslim News, World Muslim News, Women in Islam, Islamic Feminism, Arab Women, Women In Arab, Islamophobia in America, Muslim Women in West, Islam Women and Feminism
