Terming the Liberhan Commission report as "only a half-truth", Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav on Monday said that veteran Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Atal Bihari Vajpayee was also responsible for the demolition of the Babri Masjid in 1992.
"Why was Atalji arrested (after the Dec 6, 1992 razing) if he was innocent? He was involved in all the meetings (leading up to the demolition). He staged protests at our home and office. How can you say that Atalji was not responsible for it. He has incited the feelings of people. He is not well and I expect him to get well soon. But as far as Ayodhya is concerned he was responsible," Mulayam Singh told the Lok Sabha.
The Liberhan Commission report, submitted in parliament Nov 24, had indicted Vajpayee along with senior BJP leader L.K. Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi for the demolition. The BJP had expressed shock at the indictment of Vajpayee.
"Right from the BJP to Shiv Sena, everybody was involved in that (demolition). This (Liberhan report) is only a half-truth. Was Shankersinh Vaghela not involved in it? Was Sanjay Nirupam not there? Everybody was there," he added.
"Had action been taken, the mosque would have been saved and communal harmony in the country would have remained intact," the Samajwadi Party chief said, adding: "The incident shattered national integration and fomented mutual distrust among Hindus and Muslims. This is dangerous."
Mulayam Singh also defended the firing on Kar Sevaks (Hindus who gathered for the Ram temple movement) in 1990 when he was Uttar Pradesh chief minister.
"To save the mosque (in 1990) our security forces had to fire. In the firing, 16 lives were lost. But more lives were lost in the riots in the aftermath of the mosque demolition. The full report should come out," he added.

New Delhi: The BJP today said the demolition of the disputed structure at Ayodhya was a result of public anger and asserted that it would build a Ram temple at the same site for "national justice", as it slammed the Liberhan Commission report as "a political document" which is "biased".
Opening BJP's defence on the report which has indicted a number of its leaders, party chief Rajnath Singh said in the Lok Sabha that the Liberhan commission report was "a bundle of grave errors" and its intent appeared to be "pre-decided" and aimed at "character assassination" of certain political leaders and parties.
The commission has reached "bizarre" conclusions, he said during the debate and took strong objection to the adverse comments made against former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and senior leaders LK Advani and MM Joshi.
He said the report was "not unbiased" and said it was a "political document of character assassinations" as legal criteria for indictment had been ignored.
"Whatever happened on December 6, 1992, was a result of public anger. There was no mosque at the site since 1936," he said, amid repeated disruptions caused by objections from Congress and some other parties like Samajwadi Party.
"The Liberhan Commission report is a bundle of several errors....even after spending 17 years it has not been able to bring out the truth," he said.
During the 17 years, justice Liberhan or anybody else from the Commission had not visited Ayodhya even once, Singh said and likened him to Sanjay, an aide of Mahabharat's Dhrithrastra, who had a special vision and could give a blow-by-blow account of the Kurukshetra war without being there. "Who is that Dhrithrastra," he asked.
Singh said the indictment of Vajpayee and other BJP leaders was not based on facts but assumptions and the commission seemed to be "pre-decided" on whom to blame for the demolition and has thus reached "bizarre" conclusions.
Hitting out at the Commission for describing Vajpayee as "psuedo-secular", he said even Nehru had praised the BJP leader and Rao used to see him as a political guru.
"The report is totally baseless, prejudiced and is a deliberate attempt to target some persons and political parties," he charged.
"Building a Ram temple is not just religious justice, but also national justice. BJP reaffirms its commitment to build Ram Temple at the same site. When BJP, which was part of NDA, was in power, it could not deliver on its promise despite trying its best," the BJP said.
He insisted that no 'namaz' had been performed at the disputed structure since 1934 and the doors of the structure were opened for Hindus for 'puja' of the Ram Lala in 1949.
Hitting back at the Congress, he said then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi had gone to have 'darshan' of Devraha Baba on November 6, 1989, before elections and had a meeting for 40 minutes. "The government should state what did they talk for 40 minutes," he said.
As Singh spoke about the events preceding December 6, 1992, home minister P Chidambaram intervened saying the issue of 'namaz' or 'puja' being conducted at the disputed structure in Ayodhya could not be discussed in parliament as the matter was sub-judice.
"Whether namaz or puja was being conducted is part of the title suit. We are not here to debate a title suit. It is sub-judice and cannot be debated in this House," he said, adding that the debate should confine to the Liberhan report.
Chidambaram, who is expected to reply to the debate tomorrow, said the Liberhan Commission was appointed only to "go into the circumstances leading to the demolition" so as to find out who demolished the structure.
Agreeing with Chidambaram, speaker Meria Kumar said the members should be conscious of the fact that the matter is sub-judice and their statements should not prejudice the title suit. She asked the members to confine to the report.
At this, Murli Manohar Joshi (BJP) said the point was raised by the party to highlight inaccuracies. But Singh contended that as the matter was in courts, there was no point debating the report at all.
Defending the then Kalyan Singh government in UP, Singh said the Congress had in 1945 given a strong commitment not to allow country's partition but failed to keep the promise.
"Why questions are now being raised about Kalyan Singh's assurance to the Supreme Court on not allowing any damage to the disputed structure," he posed.

Since everyone is talking or writing about the Liberhan Commission’s findings on the destruction of the Babri Masjid on December 6, 1992, I too have the right to air my views on the subject. To start with, I ignored the furore being made over it being “leaked” before being presented in Parliament. It is the duty of the media to ferret out news by whatever means it can. The Indian Express and NDTV did their professional jobs and deserve to be congratulated. It can be assumed that it was not leaked by the government because it could have chosen a more appropriate time on the eve of elections to get mileage out of it. Nor could it have been leaked by Justice Liberhan.
Seventeen long years and Rs 8 crore of our money it took to tell us something we already knew because most of us had seen the entire drama enacted before our eyes on our TV sets. Only, we were not sure of the exact roles played by the actors; now we are.
Narasimha Rao did not discharge the duties expected of a Prime Minister in a crisis situation. He could have prevented the tragedy but allowed it to take place. History will never forgive him.
I was uncertain of the role of Atal Bihari Vajpayee and had given him benefit of doubt, Liberhan has not and held him equally guilty. Perhaps he is, as Govindacharya described him, a mukhota — double faced.
About the rest including Murli Mahohar Joshi (Jyotishiji), Uma Bharti, Kalyan Singh, Vinay Katiyar, et al, I have no doubt of them being involved . It can no longer be doubted that all the saffron parties — the RSS, Shiv Sena, Bajrang Dal, Vishwa Hindu Parishad, and, most of all, BJP were parties in the nefarious plot as one.
If the law were to take its course, all these men and women should be charged for the wanton and criminal act of vandalising a place of worship. But as things are in our country, that would only make heroes of people who have tarnished the secular image of India. They have let down Bapu Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Maulana Azad, Ghaffar Khan, Sheikh Abdullah, Bhagat Singh, Jayaprakash Narayan and others who strove to make India a model of communal and social harmony.
The most appropriate punishment then would be to ostracise them from society and tell them we will not share hookah-paani with you till you atone for your sin.

We are committed to Ram temple: BJP on Babri anniversary
On the 17th anniversary of the Babri Masjid demolition, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday reiterated that building a temple to Lord Ram at the mosque site was a "commitment" and the party would seek a resolution to the issue through negotiation or judicial verdict.
"The Ram temple remains a commitment for us. The BJP will prefer a solution through mutual negotiation or a judicial verdict," party spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad told IANS.
The BJP also trashed the findings of the Liberhan Commission report which probed the Dec 6, 1992, razing.
"The report in itself is redundant, lopsided and a political document," Prasad added.
The BJP's comments came as different groups in the Capital organised protest marches while one group held a celebratory march to mark the anniversary.
Staging a protest at the Jantar Mantar near the central business hub of Delhi, members of the All India Babri Masjid Rebuilding Committee (AIBMRC) demanded that the mosque be rebuilt on the disputed site of Ayodhya.
They also submitted a memorandum to President Pratibha Patil to put behind bars those named by the Liberhan Commission report.
Meanwhile, members of the little-known Rashtrawadi Sena marked the day as "Vijay Divas" (victory day) by holding a march in east Delhi.
Bharat Lal Sharma, secretary of the group said: "Our party chief Jai Bhagwan Goyal said this was a historic day which should be celebrated with pomp and show."
Goyal was one of the 68 people mentioned in the report of the Liberhan Commission, as culpable for "leading the country to the brink of communal discord".
The report, which was tabled in parliament Nov 24, has indicted members of the Sangh Parivar for demolition of the mosque in Ayodhya.
Sahmat, a group of artists held a discussion with journalists and photographers who were witness to the demolition along with historians to give their perspective. A photo exhibition 'Hum Sab Ayodhya' was also organised.

On the eve of the 18th anniversary of the demolition of ‘Babri Masjid’ at Ayodhya, Rashtiya Swayamsevak Sangh( RSS) Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat today sounded more on the side of Vinay Katiyar than LK Advani.
Bhagwat said, “There is no point of expressing regret at the demolition of the disputed structure. We were a part of the movement for Ram Mandir and in future also, we will support it. The structure got demolished without any pre-planning, as the sentiments of the karsewaks were ignored.”
L.K. Advani had termed December 6, 1992 as the saddest day of his life, where as the Vinay Katiyar, former Bajrang Dal Chief and Faizabad MP, had termed it as the happiest.
Bhagwat, who was on a two-day visit of the city, was interacting with press at a Press Club, Sector 27.
Taking a dig at the report of the Liberhan Ayodhya Commission of Inquiry, recently tabled in parliament with an Action Taken Report, he said, “The same thing could be said in 1993 also, but it took 17 years. There is a question mark on the credibility of the report. There are errors too.”
He rubbished the claim that Kalyan Singh, who was UP CM on the day of demolition, was the main protagonist of the Ram Mandir movement, and said that he was just an activist and the saints did the main job. He also named Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, former MP from Rampur, and Muzaffar Hussain, from Mumbai, when questioned about his claims of Muslims as karsewaks, who supported and expressed happiness after the demolition.
On the indictment of RSS and Sangh Parivar in Bombay riots in 1992 and post-godhra riots in 2002, he clarified, “We were not involved in any riots. We are open to any inquiry.” He added that we did not support any kind of violence.
On the RSS’s idea of nationalism, he clarified, “We all would take our identities along, as sons of the ‘Bharat Mata’. We all are Hindus. But if someone has objection to the use of this word (Hindu), even then we have no issues with him.”
He also reiterated the support for the traditional issues of RSS like implementation of the Common Civil Code, revocation of Article 370(special status to Jammu and Kashmir) and idea of Akhand Bharat( which includes Pakistan, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh).
On the youth’s response to the organisation, he informed, “The fourth-fifth of the members are from age group of 15-40, and just one-fifth are above 40 years of age. We are growing and has a strength of around 1, 97,000 swayamsewaks (activists).”
He added, “The organisation (socio-cultural) is not closed to Christians and Muslims. People have misconception about us of being irrational, but you have to have experience of RSS before knowing it. Just like sugar, for which you have to taste it to know its sweetness.” He further added, “We have never expelled anyone from RSS till date and our members are free to join any political organisation.”
On issue of reservation, Bhagwat said, “We derecognise caste as working methodology. We are consolidating the country as sons of Bharat Mata. Caste is an evil. But wherever there is discrimination, reservation is necessary. But there should be a time period to finish reservation, which may be decided by an independent group and not politicians.”
Rubbishing the language politics, he said, “The whole India belong to its people.”

Kochi: The demolished Babri Masjid should be reconstructed at the right place to save the face of the nation, opined Justice VR Krishna Iyer. He was inaugurating the programme for the ‘protection of secularism’ organised by the Kerala Muslim Yuvajana (youth) Federation at his house ‘Sadgamaya’. The programme was organised on the 17th anniversary of the demolition of the Babri Masjid on Sunday.
Js Krishna Iyer said that the soul of the country was wounded by the demolition of the Babri Masjid. The Masjid would not have been demolished, had the legal battle regarding the land of the masjid were solved. Justice was denied to Muslims due to the delay on the matter in the court. Islam that believes in equality is against terrorism. He added that he was a Muslim who believed in the Islamic idea of global brotherhood. KM Nasar Ayiroorppadam (KMYF state general secretary) presided over the programme. Prof MK Sanu, AA Baburaj, MN Giri etc spoke.
The protest against the demolition of the Babri Masjid on its 17th anniversary turned out to be an unannounced hartal in Kasargod taluk. Stones were pelted at vehicles in some places. Private buses and other vehicles refrained from service. Certain buses of the state RTC were on service but there were not many passengers. Nearly 1000 policemen have been deputed in the district for keeping law and order. About 40 persons were also arrested in order to avoid any untoward incidents. Yet, stones were pelted at buses in some places. It is also reported that some people had fired crackers and celebrated yesterday between 11 and 12 in the forenoon. Kasargod is the northernmost district of Kerala and is very near to Mangalore. The High Court had recently asked the state government for a report on the measures taken to prevent communal tensions in the district. The state informed the HC that communal tensions began after the demolition of the Babri Masjid.
The demolition of the Babri Masjid was the biggest terrorist activity that India faced after the murder of Mahatma Gandhi, opined Nasarudheen Elamaram, state president of the Popular Front of India. He added that the Hindutva terrorists who had planned and committed the two deeds were the real threat for the country. He was inaugurating the protest dharna organised by the PFI in Erattupetta in Kottayam on the 17th anniversary of the demolition of the Babri Masjid.
Mr Elamaram said that the Congress government, which helped in the Shilapuja, shilanyaas, rathyathras, demolition of the masjid etc, could not withdraw from the responsibility of the demolition. The Liberhan Commission which was appointed 10 days after the demolition was given 48 extensions and spent Rs 7 crores. The Indian Muslims don’t expect any justice on the report from the Mnamohan Singh government. The Congress government has no power to take action against the RSS. He said that the reconstruction of the Babri Masjid was possible by the hands of the Indian people and the Popular Front of India would lead it. The central government should be ready to ensure rule of law by imprisoning the eight people such as Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, Uma Bharathi, Ashok Singhal, Vinay Kathiar and Kalyan Singh who led the demolition of the masjid, he added.
Programmes were held in different parts of the state to commemorate the 17th anniversary of the demolition of the Babri Masjid which has come this year at a time when the contents of the Justice Liberhan Commission report is known to the public. However, there are reports that the police did not allow the use of speakers for the programmes in Malappuram district.

Indian Muslim Council-USA (http://www.imc-usa.org), an advocacy group dedicated towards safeguarding India's pluralist and tolerant ethos, demands the Indian government to bring the criminals to justice involved in the demolition of the 16th century Babri Mosque in the city of Ayodhya in the State of Uttar Pradesh, India as identified in the Report of the Liberhan Ayodhya Commission of Inquiry that was released recently.
Indian Muslim Council-USA further demands that the Indian government honor the promise given by the former Prime Minister Narasimha Rao to re-build the mosque on its original site.
On December 6th, 1992 defying the orders of the Supreme Court of India and their own promise to the nation, the Hindutva fascist forces demolished the historic Babri Mosque in northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. This 16th century Muslim place of worship was destroyed by a frenzied mob of kar-sevaks in spite of assurances from the Hindutva Leaders and the State Administration officials that only symbolic prayers will be performed and that the structure of the Babri Mosque will be safe.
The Liberhan Commission appointed by the Indian government to investigate the destruction of the Babri Mosque submitted the report earlier this year that took more than 16 years of proceedings and recording statements of politicians, bureaucrats and police officials. Led by Indian Supreme Court Judge M S Liberhan the commission identified key individuals and organizations who played a direct role in planning what the commission termed as a "joint common enterprise" that lead to the destruction of the Babri Mosque.
"The Liberhan report is another testimony to the sad state of communal affairs in India and a clear verdict on deep seated resistance towards speaking the truth" said Rasheed Ahmed National President of IMC-USA. Ahmed further stated that "It took 17 years to document the two obvious facts, first that the demolition of the Babri Masjid was a premeditated criminal act by Hindutva leaders and second that BJP is simply a means for RSS to impose fascist regime in India"
Liberhan Commission named 68 individuals as the leading planners and participants directly or indirectly involved in the destruction of the Babri Mosque. Most of the perpetrators listed in the Commission report are associated with Hindutva-fascist groups such as the RSS, VHP and Bajrang Dal, all of whom are closely allied with the political Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The BJP, in alliance with several other parties, was in power from 1998 to 2004. These religious extremist groups garner significant support from Non-Resident Indians living in the United States.
Dr. Hyder Khan, National Vice President of IMC-USA said that "I am hopeful that current leadership in India will take moral and bold decisions to check the criminalization of politics through regional tribunals as proposed by the Liberhan Commission and not allow the Hindutva extremist groups propagate intolerant agenda and sectarianism"
After 17 years the Muslims of India who still feel aggrieved at the criminal destruction of the mosque demand that Indian Government immediately initiate criminal and civil action against all accused in the Liberhan Report and that all politicians, individuals, and organizations involved in the crime are prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

Ahead of the discussion on the Liberhan report early next week, the Union Cabinet is learnt to have cleared the laws to deal with communal violence and fine-tune the restrictions on the powers of the police to arrest suspects in offences punishable with less than seven years.
At a late evening meeting, the Cabinet is also understood to have cleared amendments to the Foreign Contribution Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Bill that has been pending for the last three years. Also, the Cabinet cleared a law to remove disparity in travel facilities between ministers and MPs.
The decision to pull the Communal Violence (Prevention, Control and Rehabilitation of Victims) Bill out of the deep freeze - it was introduced in the Rajya Sabha in December 2005 – comes close on the heels of the Liberhan Commission on Babri Masjid demolition recommending a law to prevent such violence.
An official said the plan was to introduce all the planned legislations in the ongoing session or have them passed, depending on their status. There were reports that the Cabinet had also approved the introduction of a legislation to set up a tribunal to adjudicate disputes in the higher education sector.
The Bill sought to empower the Centre to declare an area in a state as communally disturbed — opposed by the parliamentary standing committee — and send central security forces without the state's request and transfer of cases outside the state concerned for trial and take steps to protect witnesses.

"You can't fire a bullet twice. The time has passed. Today the issue is delivery," he said.
On criticism within sections of the BJP who feel that the Ram Janmabhoomi movement was now resembling a noose around the party leadership's neck, Shourie said, "That's bunk...I myself was a strong supporter of the Ayodhya movement because one of the principle corrections that was required to Indian public discourse since independence was on the perversion of the meaning of the word secular.
"And the movement, which got personified by Mr (L K) Advani, was a very strong corrective in that regard," he told a news channel.
On the eve of the debate in Parliament on the Liberhan Commission report on Babri mosque demolition, Shourie said, "It is an idiotic report...17 years of public money should have been wasted on this gentleman and his staff! It is a crime".
He said, "It has the most elementary errors. I went through the report and there are so many howlers in it, like the kar sewaks cannot be identified but they were this, that... you can't identify them, (but) you know their character."
Shourie parried a question on his earlier criticism of the party that it was resembling a 'kati patang' (A kite without a string).
"I was allowed that freedom to raise my points. I had my say. It's for the party to see whatever they want to do," he said.

AYODHYA: The 17th anniversary of the Babri Masjid demolition on Sunday passed off peacefully amid tight security with various groups demanding that recommendations of the Liberhan Commission report be implemented while others raised questions over the findings.
Under directions from the Union home ministry, Uttar Pradesh and other state governments beefed up security and Ayodhya-Faizabad area was converted into a virtual fortress.
While the VHP observed the day as "Shourya Diwas (valour day)", Samajwadi Party marked it as "Kala Diwas (black day)". All India Babri Masjid Action Committee held special prayers for peace and harmony.
In Ayodhya, Central forces along with 500 personnel of PAC, 200 jawans of Rapid Action Force, bomb detection squads and anti-sabotage teams were deployed. CCTV cameras were in operation at the disputed site with the authorities banning public gatherings and security forces keeping a close vigil on the Saryu river in Ayodhya, officials said.
There was no untoward incident in Ayodhya, they said. The authorities were extra careful this time as the atmosphere has become surcharged with the Liberhan report indicting senior BJP leaders including Atal Bihari Vajpayee, L K Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi in connection with the demolition. The report, tabled in Parliament, however, exonerated then Prime Minister P V Narasimha Rao.
The report was in focus at various functions and demonstrations held in Delhi, with All India Babri Masjid Rebuilding Committee (AIBMRC) and the Popular Front of India, a confederation of Muslim groups, demanding legal action against those indicted by the commission and scrapping of the recognition of BJP by the EC.

No question of regretting Babri Masjid demolition: RSS
CHANDIGARH: Seventeen years after the Babri Masjid was pulled down, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Saturday said there was no question for the Sangh
to regret for what had happened and maintained that their full support to the "Ram temple movement" will continue.
Addressing a meet-the-press programme here, Bhagwat said the pulling down of the structure was not any conspiracy, but a spontaneous reaction from the karsewaks "whose sentiments and emotions had been hurt".
"Whatever happened was connected with the movement for the construction of the Ram temple. The sentiments of the karsewaks were hurt that also included many Muslims. So the question for the RSS to regret does not arise," he said.
Without naming any one he said, "afsos jinko karna chahiye woh karein" (those who ought to regret, should do so).
When asked to name any prominent Muslim leader who participated in the "karsewa" on December 6, the day when the mosque was brought down, Bhagwat said, "There were many Muslims. Prominent names that I can remember include (senior BJP leader) Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and another leader from Mumbai, Muzaffar Hussain".
He stressed that the Sangh's full support to the Ram temple movement, which was being run by Sant Mahatama religious leaders), will continue as it had extended its support in the past. "The Sangh works as per their direction," he added.
"Whether Ram temple will be built with the support of the government or through any court directive or by change of heart (consensus among different sections of people), but we are committed to this (the movement for its construction)," he said.
He said in fact after the 1992 Babri Masjid demolition the interaction of the Sangh with other communities, including the Muslims and the Christians increased.
"Our intentions are clear. We have no enmity with any community," Bhagwat said, adding that the Sangh has not been properly understood by the people.
"To understand the Sangh one has to come in its fold for a couple of years. The taste of sugar is felt only after eating it," he said.
Bhagwat said that propaganda against the Sangh is also creating misconceptions about the organisation. "Now the misconceptions about the Sangh are being removed," he said adding that his media interaction here, the first ‘Meet the Press’ programme by any RSS sanghchalak was also a step in the direction of clearing the misconceptions.

Liberhan demolishes Parivar, calls Atal 'pseudo-moderate'

NEW DELHI: In a scorching indictment of the entire Sangh Parivar, the Liberhan Commission that probed the demolition of the Babri Masjid, has
said the BJP, Shiv Sena, Bajrang Dal and VHP, hatched an elaborate conspiracy to not just demolish the Babri Masjid but bring the country ‘‘to the brink of communal discord.’’

In a voluminous report running into almost 1,000 pages, Justice M S Liberhan has spared no saffron leader, not even Atal Behari Vajpayee, who is termed as a ‘‘pseudo-moderate’’, pretending to keep a distance from the Ram Janambhoomi campaign when he was actually aware of the conspiracy.
The report has dismissed all the arguments of the BJP leadership and its saffron allies to deny any pre-planned plot behind the destruction of the Mughal era mosque in Ayodhya on December 6, 1992. The report, which took 17 years and 48 extensions to write, says the demolition was a result of the RSS-led conspiracy, rather than the spontaneous expression of the sentiments of Hindus favouring the construction of a Ram Temple.
As the report was tabled in Parliament on Tuesday along with the government’s action-taken report (ATR), there was hardly any excitement, barring the excitement generated by Samajwadi leader Amar Singh who lunged at BJP’s S S Ahluwalia for raising ‘‘Jai Sri Ram’’ slogans. This was despite the fact that the report lists not just L K Advani and Murli Monohar Joshi as being culpable, but also mentions A B Vajpayee as one of the persons responsible for misleading the people with his pretence of detachment from the movement.
The report is a meticulous exercise to undercut BJP’s chief defence — that the demolition was a result of an upsurge of Hindu sentiments. It says that although the disputed structure was demolished by ‘‘the hands of the common man’’, what prompted him to do so was ‘‘the cacophony of religious righteousness and the zealot’s rhetoric’’ orchestrated by the Sangh Parivar.
Talking to TOI, Justice Liberhan denied that he has indicted Vajpayee. However, he is only partly correct. The report does not put Vajpayee in the same league as L K Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi, let alone those the former chief UP chief minister Kalyan Singh who, according to the report, directly executed the conspiracy. But it does say that Vajpayee can’t be “held innocent.”
Justice Liberhan remains steadfastly focused on RSS as the source of conspiracy, suggesting that it was virtually running the Uttar Pradesh government, placing officers of its choice in key slots and removing those who were not ready to bend to its wishes.
