Sahil Adeem: A New Kid On the Block Who Discusses Islam From A Different Level

By New Age Islam Staff Writer 14 August 2023 He Rejects Sectarian Viewpoint And Quotes From The Bible And Torah Main Points: 1. He is the son of a Pakistani Urdu writer Adeel Hashmi. 2. He believes in time travel. 3. He believes in intergalactic journey. 4. He despises sectarianism. 5. He has studied the Torah and the Bible. ------ The 20th century saw the emergence of non-traditional Islamic scholars like Muhammad Asad and Maulana Wahiduddin Khan and who explained Islam from a non-traditional point of view. They adopted a liberal and modern approach to understanding Islam. Though such non-traditional Islamic thinkers were rare, they set a precedence. In 21st century also, such liberal, modern and non- sectarian Islamic preachers and researchers have made their presence felt. Engineer Mohammad Ali Mirza is one of the liberal Islamic preachers who explains Islam only from the point of view of Quran and Hadith. However, he is a traditional Aalim who dons a Dastar and a Shar 'i beard and quotes only Quran and Hadith because he, like many Muslim ulema also believes that other divine books have been tampered. Sahil Adeem, a new kid on the block, is different from them all in that he does not look like an Islamic scholar at all. He is 38 years old and looks like the Indian film actor Jackie Shroff with long hair and a beard. He speaks both in English and Urdu. He has studied the Quran, Hadiths and religious scriptures of both Shias and Sunnis. Apart from it, he has studied the famous Tafsirs along with the Bible and the Torah. But he is not one of the Islamic preachers who upload religious videos only to make money. In fact, he delivers his lectures on Islam only to create awareness among the Muslims about the real Islam which does not recognise or approve sectarianism and which advocates scientific and rational thinking. He is a corporate trainer by profession. He is a behavioural trainer. He provides consultancy and chalks out strategies for companies worldwide including the United States, Canada, Dubai, Pakistan and Denmark. He is the son of Adeel Hashmi, an Urdu writer of Pakistan but completed his graduate studies from the Toronto Metropolitan and the University of Chicago. He has his own company Source Code through which he aims to raise the standards of thinking among the people. He is a counsellor at the Pakistan Women Development Society. His USP is that he does not consider the previous divine books like the Torah and the Bible totally outdated. He easily gives references from them while discussing relevant topics and issues with reference to Quran. He says that the Quran does not discuss those issues in detail which have been discussed in the Bible in detail. So we should see what the Bible and Torah say on common issues. He also believes in time travel and gives examples from the Quran and previous scriptures. For example, he is of the opinion that the story of the As'hab-e-Kahf mentioned in the Quran is an example of time travel. They woke up after 300 years and their body did not betray ageing. They appeared people from a different land only from their old coins and old fashioned clothes. Their hair and tooth nails did not grow and their skin did not look like the skin of 300 year old men. And they said they slept for a day or half a day. Sahil Adeem also believes in intergalactic and interplanetary travels. He does not consider Prophet Jesus' ascension to the heavens a metaphysical event. He says that interplanetary or intergalactic travel is possible and the Quran talks of it when it says that on the Day of Judgment, the doors of the heavens will be opened. The event of Meraj to him was also an example of time travel and therefore, he disagrees with those ulema who say that Meraj was only a dream. He believes that Meraj was a physical journey through time. He also advises Muslims not to be so much obsessed with the coming of Imam Mahdi because this demonstrates their passive nature. The Muslims have lost their will to solve their problems and wit for a messiah to come and solve their problems. He ays, "If we keep waiting for Imam Mahdi so that he comes and save us, we will only head towards the hellfire." He also warns the Muslims of the huge social and religious implications of the Artificial intelligence. In his opinion, the AI will drastically affect the moral values of our society and therefore will pose a grave threat to the Islamic value system. In that system people committing lesser sins to be virtuous as grave sins and immoral deeds will be so widespread that small sins would be seen as virtues or good deeds. He asks Muslims to be prepared and take precautions in advance. Since he is a motivational speaker, he is very popular in Pakistan. As he is young and is dressed in traditional clothes, he can connect with the youth easily. He was previously invited to various university campuses of Pakistan where he delivered motivational lectures but he was banned by the government from speaking in public universities because of his anti-establishment statement. He was asked to apologise so that the ban could be lifted but he refused to apologise. He wrote on his social media account: "I am assuming that you've confused me with some motivational speaker you are used to listening to which you call in your castles amuse yourselves. I was born a free man and I bow only to my Lord who created me to speak the truth. The only thing I am sorry for is how low our standards of thought are and plight of my people who cannot see it and vote for people like you." Tje new generation sees him as the saviour of the Pakistani people as his views and ideas get huge audience. The new generation of Pakistan have been fed up of the narrow and sectarian beliefs of the traditional ulema of Pakistan who only speak of bloodshed and ostracising people of opposite sects. Therefore, the youth of Pakistan see Sahil Adeem as a leader that can bring a revolution in Pakistan. Adila Zak writes: "Sahil Adeem is the man of future and the need of today. He understands the misunderstood and uncovers the historical complexities. If one man can change the world in 21st century, he is Sahil Adeem." Muhammad Yahya writes: "Sahil Adeem is a Muslim leader waking up the Muslim ummah from the deep sleep. He is the only man who can bring change and revolution in this century. He is an outstanding speaker and behavioural trainer."
