Why I love Imam Hussain, Islamic History, NewAgeIslam.com

Islamic History
Why I love Imam Hussain

Yesterday was ‘Chehlum’, the fortieth day after the observance of Muharram, an event that is closer to my heart even more than Eid. I have been born and brought up in a family that has a great affinity with Imam Hussain and his cause. It has some sort of emotional attachment or appeal for all Muslims. The martyrdom of Imam Hussain bin Ali bin Abi Talib is a true example of non-violent resistance against a dictator or a tyrant or an unjust system where the poor are getting poorer day by day.

The commemoration of Muharram in India has a historical importance with people from all the major religions and castes once taking part in the morning to remember the sufferings of Imam Hussain against the tyrant Yazid bin Muawiyah.(in 61 AH, around October 20, 680 CE), by the Euphrates.

Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti, the great Sufi saint in the 12th century praised Imam Hussain in the following quartet.

Shah ast Hussain, Baadshaan ast Hussain

Deen ast Hussain, Deen panaah ast Hussain

Sar daad, na daad dast dar dast e Yazeed

Haqqa ke banaye La ilaah ast Hussain.

Islam and Pluralism
As a Jewish Rabbi, I found the following sayings Divine! It is sure!
100 Sayings of Imam Muhammad b. Jafer As-Sadiq (A.S.)

1- He who treats people kindly will be accepted as arbiter.

2- To trust everybody in times of injustice and cheating is disability.

3- If problems are added to each other, they will give birth to relief.

4- To recognize the actuality of your friend, you should enrage him. If he keeps up his friendship, he is true friend lest, he is false.

5- Do not appreciate one's affection before you enrage him three times.

6- Do not trust your friend perfectly, because the knockdown of the trustful is incurable.

7- Islam is a definite rank. Faith is one rank higher than Islam. Conviction is one rank higher than faith. People have been given a rank lower than conviction.

8- To remove a mountain is easier than removing faith.

9- Beware of joking, because it causes rancour and drives into malice. Joking is the lesser revilement.

10- The desire for the worldly pleasures causes grief and sadness. Abstinence from the worldly pleasures brings about the rest of both heart and body.

11- Life is to rent a house and buy bread.

12- He who gains oppression is not gaining welfare. He who mistreats people should not complain when people mistreat him.

13- In homelands, exchanging visits is the means of association. In travel, correspondence is the means of association.

Alyas Karmani, A Muslim Imam: Why We Need To Talk About Sex
by Paul Valley
One of its key projects is running courses to change the attitude of young British Pakistanis which, Alyas Karmani believes, underlie the cultural assumptions which have led a number of Asians to become involved in the on-street grooming of schoolgirls for sex. Eight men of Pakistani heritage, and an Afghan, were were convicted at Liverpool Crown Court this week of offences including four rapes, 11 charges of conspiracy to engage children in sexual activity and six of trafficking children for sexual exploitation.
