Dialogue: Hillary Clinton and Strobe Talbott on The US-Muslim world relations at Doha, Qatar, Islam and the West, NewAgeIslam.com

Dialogue: Hillary Clinton and Strobe Talbott on The US-Muslim world relations at Doha, Qatar
US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton

PRIME MINISTER SHEIKH HAMAD BIN JASSIM AL THANI: Well, I remember, Talbott, when we talked about Brookings Doha three years ago in Washington, me and you and Martin, we said, "What we are looking for, opening another institute? It's -- you are not for that, and we are also not for that." We thought that in this part of the world, we need to have kind of (inaudible) in different aspects, and some also studies and some data. And you know, we have many institutions and many universities in Qatar open. And for us, what is important: we need to understand each other more between your region and our country, between your country and our countries in this region. And one of these things is to open (inaudible) Brookings Institute Saban Center in Doha.

And I think we benefited a lot. This is the seventh time we did this dialogue. And every time it's growing. I remember the time, it was around 60 persons we invited. And we were pushing to bring the 60 persons. And this year we have 300, because we put a limit of 350, and (inaudible), but now we are looking for more quality. We are looking for the dialogue to have a Doha Center of dialogue.

Our dream and His Highness's dream, how to make Doha Center for everybody to meet, to have different opinions, to have different ideas, but to have same values, and to have same principles of solving all the problems by talking to each other. And I think we, as you know, succeeded by last year. We were having 107 conferences in Doha. And I am talking 107 conferences over 150 persons -- we don't count the smaller conferences. And we were glad to have all the people here for the culture. It's good for people to meet each other. And also, it's good to know why we are angry from each other.

Jammu Muslims show the way, Current affairs, NewAgeIslam.com

Jammu Muslims show the way
By Hari Om

So much so, they are holding Press conferences and accusing the Kashmiri leadership for outraging Hindu sentiments in Jammu & Kashmir. The positive attitude of Jammu's Muslim community has simply demoralised fanatics and their fundamentalist 'secular' supporters in the State and elsewhere in the country.

Determined as they were, the people of Jammu province, cutting across party lines, observed bandhs and organised dharnas. It was a massive affair. In the meantime, a frightened and unnerved Government imposed Section 144. Not only this, the biased administration clamped curfew to keep people confined to their homes in order to weaken the demonstrations. Hundreds of people were arrested by the police and several suffered serious injuries.

But despite the Government's terror tactics the struggle continues under the banner of Sri Amarnath Yatra Sangharsh Samiti (SAYSS). The protesters claim that unless their two demands -- expulsion of Governor NN Vohra from the State and restoration of the land to the SASB -- are met, they will continue with their struggle.

By Ghazanfar Ali Khan

Addressing a crowded press conference at the Disabled Children’s Society (DCS) hall, Prince Sultan, who is also the chairman of the DCS’ board of trustees, said, “We can’t understand the courage of this man, who climbed the highest peak.”

Prince Sultan, who has the distinction to be the first Arab and Muslim astronaut to go into space, also presented Al-Zuman a gift.

The press conference was attended by Bandar ibn Osman Al-Saleh, member of the DCS board of trustees, Awad Al-Ghamdi, DCS secretary-general, Sultan Al-Bazie, chief executive officer of Attariq Communications, and Abdulmohsen Al-Yahya, general manager of Kudu fast food chain. Attariq Communications and Kudu were the main sponsors of Al-Zuman’s expedition.

After the conference, Al-Zuman, a PR strategist and graduate of Oregon State University who works for Attaiq Communications, toured DCS facilities and met children there.

Deoband first: A fatwa against terror
1 Jun 2008

However, it was when the deputy rector of Deoband, Usman, came down heavily on "the dual policy of America" that the massive crowds cheered the most. "Whenever Christian and American interests are hurt in any part of the world, they take prompt action to set things right even at the cost of human lives. They maintain silence though when Muslims are the victims," he said, further criticizing the US for its support to Israel.

According to Usman, Jamiat recently held a series of conferences and meetings with madrassas in Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Kanpur, Surat, Varanasi and Kolkata to carry forward the anti-terror movement which was initiated at Deoband in February. Usman said that many people, especially in the West, were carrying out a propaganda that terrorism was synonymous with jehad.
