What drew me to Islam, Islamic Society, NewAgeIslam.com

Islamic Society
What drew me to Islam
By Diana Doss

Growing up in a “Middle Eastern” family gives me a slight advantage as a new Muslim.

The phrases commonly used by Muslims such as “in sha’Allah” or “alhumdulillah” were already a part of my everyday vocabulary, and I easily blend into any group of Arab Muslims.

The only thing that gives me away is my name and perhaps the fact that I excitedly pick up books having anything to do with Islam.

The transition from Christianity to Islam was relatively easy for me in terms of adopting Islamic values and adapting to Muslim culture, but the road to get here was difficult and lonely at times.

I was born in an Egyptian Christian household. My mother was raised in the Coptic Church, and my dad was Catholic.

I went to Christian school from kindergarten through high school, and was always finding myself in between Catholic, non-denominational and Coptic churches.

My parents wanted me to find a balance, or rather, a niche, within what seemed like contradicting versions of Christianity.

By my last year of high school, I felt disconnected from common themes within Christianity and after years of Bible classes, the confusion surrounding certain doctrines only increased, and so did the inability of religious leaders to explain them to me.

ISLAM, JUDAISM and CHRISTIANITY: THE COMMON ASPECTS, Islam and Pluralism, NewAgeIslam.com

Islam and Pluralism
ISLAM, JUDAISM and CHRISTIANITY: THE COMMON ASPECTS

“Say: “O people of the Book! Let us get together on what is common between us and you...” (Qur’an; 3:64).
BACKGROUND:
The doctrinal differences between Islam, Christendom and Judaism are neither trivial nor ignorable, yet it would be imprudent and counterproductive to fight one another or hate one another over them. The debate over them should be within the confines of highest standards of ethics, for God says in the Qur’an: “And dispute you not with the People of the Book except in the most kindly manner -unless it be those of them who wronged- but say: “We believe in the Revelation which has come down to us and in that which came down to you; our God and your God is one, and it is to Him we submit (in Islam)” (Qur’an; 29:46), “Call unto the way of thy Lord with wisdom and fair exhortation, and reason with them in the better way. Lo! thy Lord is best aware of him who strayeth from His way, and He is Best Aware of those who go aright.” (Qur’an; 16:125). Abraham, the common ancestor of Jews, Christians and Muslims provides the common point: “Abraham was neither a “Jew” nor a “Christian”, but was one who turned away form all that is false, having surrendered himself unto God; and he was not of those who ascribe divinity to aught beside Him.” (Qur’an; 3:67). Those Jews and Christians who embrace Islam are promised for a double reward by Allah in Qur’an: “Those unto whom We gave the Scripture before it (Jews & Christians), they (some) believe in it, And when it is recited unto them, they say: We believe in it. Lo! it is the Truth from our Lord. Lo! even before it we were of those who surrender (unto Him). These will be given their reward twice over, because they are steadfast and repel evil with good, and spend of that wherewith We have provided them” (Qur’an; 28:52-54).

Band Of Fanatics: The Zakir Naik Show, Radical Islamism and Jihad, NewAgeIslam.com

Radical Islamism and Jihad
Band Of Fanatics: The Zakir Naik Show
Salah Uddin Shoaib Choudhury

- VOLUME - 4, ISSUE - 9, DHAKA, FEBRUARY 18, 2009
Speakers in PeaceTV, who regularly appear in the programs are Dr. Zakir Naik [India], Ahmed Deedat [South Africa], Dr. Bilal Philips [Canada], Yassir Fazaga [USA], Abdur Rahim Green [UK], Hussein Ye [Malaysia], Dr. Jafar Idris [Sudan], Salem Al Amry [UAE], Dr. Israr Ahmed [Pakistan], Maulana Parekh [India] etc. But, only one person, who occupies almost 65 per cent of the program segments of this television channel, is Dr. Zakir Naik himself. And, surely, with the slogan of ´solution for humanity´, Dr. Zakir spreads religious hatred, poison, and regularly attacks Judaism, Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and other religions in the world and cleverly tries to project Bible, Torah and other Holy Scriptures as fake or changed. Dr. Zakir Naik, being a fanatic Muslim not only tries to continue his own way of spreading religious hatred and extremism through his so-called lectures but even promotes the idea of jihad and Islamist aggressions. He has definitely found a very effective tool, when he was able to establish PeaceTV, and now continuing his hate speech agenda as well as his own publicity and promotional programs to project other members of his family as ´Islamic Scholars´ [which includes his minor son and daughter]. And millions of dollars donated mostly by Muslim from the portion of their Zakat fund is going right inside the pocket of Dr. Zakir Naik, and he leads a very lavish life while spending this fund not only for running his own PeaceTV but also for buying luxury and comfort for other members of his family.

Did Muhammad Ever Really Live? DISPUTE AMONG ISLAM SCHOLARS, Islam and the West, NewAgeIslam.com

Islam and the West
Did Muhammad Ever Really Live? DISPUTE AMONG ISLAM SCHOLARS

SPIEGEL ONLINE: Your scholarship focuses on the early period of Islam and the Koran. What is the evidentiary situation? How could we prove that the Prophet lived?

Marx: You have to be a bit delicate about it. In general, when it comes to history, you can't point to any scientific proof. How would we, for example, prove the existence of Charlemagne? We can't conduct any experiments; we have to work with evidence. And, for this issue, the evidentiary thread is the Koran. In this case, the evidentiary situation is better than it is for any other religion. We know of manuscripts of the Koran and Islamic inscriptions already 40-50 years after the Prophet died. It would be hard to explain the Koran, if you took the prophet out of the equation. Ohlig claims that Islam was actually a Christian sect up until the Umayyad Caliphate, that is, the eighth century. In this case, I run into this massive issue: It doesn't match up with the text of the Koran. Why isn't Christ a more central figure in the Koran, then? You hear about Abraham, Moses and Noah much more frequently.

SPIEGEL ONLINE: And what about with the format of the Koran?

Marx: That's the second evidentiary thread. As can be shown in even linguistic terms, the Koran is a kind of speech. It isn't a narration like the New Testament, a piece of correspondence like the epistles of Paul, an account of the Apocalypse or a Psalm. The genre only makes sense when I have a person that I can attach it to -- a charismatic orator, a prophet. Why would a community that doesn't have a prophet invent one after the fact and make up a text, which is then also Christian, as Ohlig sees it? Ohlig's thesis is uneconomical; it raises more issues than it solves.

UK mosque calls for killing of gays, Islamic Sharia Laws, NewAgeIslam.com

Islamic Sharia Laws
UK mosque calls for killing of gays
Vijay Dutt, Hindustan Times
London, September 01, 2008

Women preachers are urging followers at one of Britain’s most influential mosques to kill homosexuals and view all non-Muslims as “vile”, according to an investigative documentary by Channel 4. The London Central Mosque and Islamic Cultural Centre is one of the most respected centres for moderate Islam in Western Europe.

The report that these extremist preachers have held study circles there and are teaching followers a hard line version of the faith followed in Saudi Arabia, known as Wahhabism has come as a surprise. Undercover reporters from Channel 4’s Dispatches recorded the lectures in the women’s section of the Mosque ordering women to murder gays and ex-Muslims.

An unnamed Saudi woman is seen mocking other religions - labelling Christianity as ‘vile’ and an ‘abomination’. Another, known as ‘Angelique’, claims Britain is a ‘land of evil’.

The investigators attended lectures for two months at the mosque, which had promised a clean up after another Dispatches probe just 18 months ago exposed it for spreading extreme Islamic views.

During one sermon, a woman called Um Amira says: ‘He is Muslim, and he gets out of Islam...what are we going to do? We kill him, kill, kill.’ In the programme, to be screened on Monday, she adds that women adulterers should be stoned to death and people who have sex before marriage should get ‘100 lashes’.
