Why A Majority Of Muslims Will Never See Logic And Accept Glaring Flaws In The Quran.....An Analysis

By Sumit Paul, New Age Islam 20 December 2022 Can Muslims, Even Learned Ones, Emulate Hindus When It Comes To Rejecting Useless Fables And Stories In The Qur'an? This Is Unlikely To Happen. ------- A huge chunk of Muslims will continue to believe that their Quran is perfect and unalloyed and WikiIslam is anti-Islam because it points out innumerable scientific errors in Islam. Despite the mention of Muhammad's winged horse, Buraq, Muslims will NEVER accept that such a fabled animal or flying horse (Udta Ghoda) can ever exist. They're fully convinced that the flying horse took Muhammad to heaven! Here lies a difference between Hindus and Muslims. Though Hindus are equally ignorant and superstitions, many rational Hindus have the grace to accept that their holy books are fraught with garbage. Let me cite two examples from BR Ambedkar's brilliant and polemic book ' Riddles in Hinduism.' The book is not available in open market. Its first and unexpurgated edition questions the veracity and relevance of two very popular 'stories' from Mahabharata. Story no. one: Bhishma's father Shantanu was a permanently erect-dick, priapic and good for nothing king. He wanted to marry a fisherman's gorgeous daughter Satyavati. Bhishma helped his lascivious father marry Satyavati. Overjoyed Shantanu bestowed upon his son Icchha Mrityu ( to die when one wants to die). Now see the illogical part of it. A king who couldn't marry a fisherman's daughter on his own and took his son's help and who did nothing worthwhile in his whole life had the power to bless his son with wilful death! Story no. two: After the Battle of Kurukshetra, Pandavas and Krishna went to meet Dhritrashtra and seek his blessings. Dhritrashtra hugged every Pandav. When it was turn to hug Bheem, Krishna pushed an effigy of Bheem. Dhritrashtra hugged the effigy with so much power and strength that he crushed it. He ( Dhritrashtra) was particularly angry with Bheem for killing his (favourite) son Duryodhan. How can this be true? Bheem had the strength of one thousand wild elephants ( that's also rubbish) and he was the strongest man, whereas blind Dhritrashtra was weak, old and emaciated. Had he hugged the real Bheem, he ( Dhritrashtra) himself would have been crushed to death! Mind you, Ambedkar is not a likeable character, loved and deeply respected by Brahmins. But even they've accepted that these two stories are bogus along with a number of myths in the holy books of Hindus. There's no denying the fact that Hindus are still a tad more liberal than average Muslims and they can see logic or at least, ready to see. But Muslims are morbidly adamant and bovine-brained. They can justify Quranic flat earth with all sorts of unintelligible mental gymnastics. Can Muslims, even learned ones, emulate Hindus when it comes to rejecting useless fables and stories in the Qur'an? This is unlikely to happen. Time to introspect. ---- A regular columnist for New Age Islam, Sumit Paul is a researcher in comparative religions, with special reference to Islam.
