All Religions And Societies Have Tried To Suppress A Woman's Sexuality

By Sumit Paul, New Age Islam 8 December 2022 Recently, Javed Akhtar said that if a man can have more than one wife, a woman should also have the same right. First of all, this statement shouldn't be taken in a literal sense because how many Muslim men have four wives? Hardly a few. What he meant was equality for both the genders in the matters of marriage, sex, sexuality and sexual gratification. More or less all religions and societies have tried to suppress a woman's sexuality. Whether Quran or Puran (there're 18 Puranas in Hinduism), all scriptures have evaded the issue of female sexuality and her sexual gratification. Righteous Muslim men will get to screw most exquisite Houries in heaven who will never lose their virginity even if screwed umpteenth times! But what about a righteous Muslim woman? Will she also get well-hung, beef-cakes in heaven? Markandeya Purana says that noble men will get Apsara in heaven but doesn't mention whether a pious ( Hindu) woman will also get a battalion of gigolos up there. Isn't a woman also a human? Doesn't she also have sexual desires? In fact, according to Malang Vatsyayan's Kam Sutra, ' Striyanaam Ashtagunah Kaamam Asti ' (a woman's sexual desire is eight times higher than that of a man). And you're not giving her anything on earth and heaven to satiate that! This is grossly unfair. Here comes the gender discrimination which must be fought and condemned by people like Javed Akhtar. Yet, he's being chastised by all Janus-faced, self-proclaimed custodians of (faux) morality. ----- A regular columnist for New Age Islam, Sumit Paul is a researcher in comparative religions, with special reference to Islam.
