West Bengal Elections: Divided Secular Parties To Increase Division Of Muslim Votes

 New Age Islam Special Correspondent

23 March 2021

Already the Cong-Left Front-ISF ( Indian Secular Front led by Peerzada of Furfura Sharif Abbas Siddiqui) have posed a threat of the division of secular votes that may lead to the defeat of TMC candidates in Muslim majority constituency. Now the Welfare Party of India (political Wing of Jamat Islami ) have fielded 4 candidates from Muslim concentration assembly segments Ratua in Muslim majority district of Malda, Suti in Muslim majority district of Murshidabad, Raghunathganj in Murshidabad and Deganga in North 24 Parganas. These assembly constituencies have high concentration of Muslims and so so-called secular parties and secular fronts have eyed these constituencies, each claiming to be the true secular party. As a result, Muslim majority constituencies may go to the BJP due to the division of secular and Muslim votes.

ISF for example will field a candidate from the Muslim majority constituency of 24 Parganas, Metiabruz from where TMC has its sitting MLA. ISF, therefore may eat into Muslim votes benefitting the BJP.

Another self-proclaimed champion of Muslims AIMIM has decided to contest the elections independently on 15 seats. Owaisi's party will obviously field candidates in the same Muslim majority seats of Murshidabad, Malda, North and South Dinajpur and North and South 24 Parganas.

Thus, the five secular parties ------ Left, Congress, ISF, WPI and AIMIM are going to confuse the secular minded Hindus and Muslim voters and cause a severe division of secular votes paving for the victory of communal forces.

The so-called secular parties have not learnt a lesson from the fate of the Congress and the RJD in Bihar elections and are repeating the same mistakes in Bengal. It remains to be seen how seriously the Muslim voters take these so-called secular parties and fronts in the elections.
