Human kind has always been indebted to good teachers who have been their mentors as far as worldly success is concerned. Being successful in the world is important but having high moral standards is what makes for a truly satisfying life.
For teachers who can take us on the right path of morality and success, real happiness and sense of achievement, it is necessary to look for something which is more related to soul than the physical body. And in this search, one always ends up listening to the enlightened souls, like the Prophets and the Mahatmas, Rishis and Munis. Seeking guidance from prophets and other great souls is not new. In every religion and region, we find such guides who teach us the lessons of morality and goodness.
There must not be any nation without a teacher to celebrate on the Teachers Day with a sense of pride. We all celebrated our teaches though teachers should not be identified with their nationalities or even their religions. Teachers are just teachers, the guide, the door to achievement, both earthly and heavenly. We must respect all the teachers of the world with same kind of honour we have for our own teachers, either religious or social.
We call our religious teachers prophets, avatars, and mahatmas. These teachers are taught either directly by their respective gods or by the Books revealed to them.
I take the Quran, the Holy Bible (Old Testament and New Testament), the Vedas, the Guru Granth Sahib, and Avesta (Zoroastrianism) etc. as the books and holy texts as the teachers of their followers.
Some of our religious books are written by the wise ones among us and some of the books were given to the chosen ones among us by God Himself. But in both the circumstances these books carry the lessons taught by the respective gods and Allah.
Thus, our religious leaders taught to us what was taught to them by the revealed books. Hence, the Books are the real teachers which guide us to lead a life of piety.
The revered book of the Muslims, the Quran, taught us through our Prophet Muhammad (SAW) the secrets of the universe. Quran asked to observe and learn. Our scientists did that and we know today the secrets of the skies, the seas and the mountains. After the downfall of Muslim Golden Age, other people, notably Europeans, took up the task and carried the quest forward. Lessons teaching us science and technology are important for our welfare but the lessons given to us on morality are of even greater value as these bring success in life on earth as well as the life hereafter.
Some of The Moral Lessons taught to us In the Holy Quran Are as Follows:
Respect and Honour All Human Beings: Surah Al-Isra [17:70]
Be Just, Even If It Is Against A Relative: Surah Al-An'am [6:152]
If You Commit an Error, Then Correct Yourself Immediately: Surah An-Nisa [4:134]
Do Not Be Contemptuous or Arrogant with People: Luqman 31:18
Remember, Someone Else Knows Better Than You: Surah Al-Isra [17:36]]:36)
Be Nice to People: Surah An-Nisa [4:36
It is not possible to describe the moral lessons of all the religious books of all the religions, taught to us, hence, I mention here the one I take as the mother of all moralities from the Holy Quran (41:34)
Translation by Muhsin Khan: “The good deed and the evil deed cannot be equal. Repel (the evil) with one which is better (i.e. Allah ordered the faithful believers to be patient at the time of anger, and to excuse those who treat them badly), then verily! he, between whom and you there was enmity, (will become) as though he was a close friend.”
There cannot be anything better than repelling other’s evil with our goodness, being patient at the time of anger and to forgive them who treat you badly. This moral lesson taught by the Holy Quran, as also all other holy books and spiritual teachers, in different forms, has the power to transform an enemy into a devoted friend.
