Mosque To Be Rebuilt On Ayodhya Temple Land
Sep 1, 2016
AYODHYA: Nearly 24 years after Babri Masjid was demolished, resulting in communal strife across India, a 300-year-old dilapidated mosque would be rebuilt on land belonging to Hanumangarhi temple in Ayodhya. Days after local civic body declared Aalamgiri Masjid 'hazardous' and pasted notice banning entry into building, Hanumangarhi temple trust, which is in possession of the masjid land, not only allowed its reconstruction and agreed to bear cost but also welcomed Muslims to offer Namaz in premises.
The Aalamgiri Masjid was built with the consent of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb by one of his generals in Ayodhya in 17th century. The structure and its land situated in an area called Argara came in possession of Hanumangarhi temple of Ayodhya after Nawab Shujauddaulah donated the land to the temple in around 1765, on the condition that namaz would continue at the masjid.
However, gradually the practice of offering namaz came to an end and the masjid was lying abandoned with no renovation or maintenance. Seeking its condition, Ayodhya municipal board recently put up a notice on its wall and banned entry into the masjid. It galvanized a group of local Muslims and they met Hanumangarhi's chief priest Mahant Gyan Das, requesting him the permission to get the masjid repaired. Their meeting ended in a pleasant surprise.

ISIL Members Disobey Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi's Order
September 1, 2016
TEHRAN (FNA) - The terrorists of the ISIL in the recent battle in Manbij in the Syrian province of Aleppo have disobeyed the orders of the group's leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, a US general said.
A top US general said the ISIL militants defied their leader's orders to fight to the death in a recent battle, instead retreating to the North, CNN reported.
Gen. Joseph Votel, the commander of the US forces in the Middle East, added that the refusal to follow orders occurred during the battle for the recently liberated town of Manbij in Syria.
ISIL leader Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi told fighters in Manbij "to fight to the death" and "they didn't follow his direction," according to Votel, questioning how much command and control ISIL leadership has over its forces.
Still, he said that ISIL has a "strong network" that relies on "guidance from centralized leadership."
The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) seized full control over the Northern city of Manbij near the Turkish border on August 12, after the last remaining ISIL terrorists, who had been using civilians as human shields, escaped.
The Military Council of Manbij in Aleppo province announced that over 4,000 Takfiri militants have been killed in tough battle with the predominantly Kurdish Syrian Democratic Forces since the beginning of Manbij liberation operations.

A Need for ‘Belonging’ Led Virginia Man to the Islamic State
September 1, 2016
First he was a cross-wearing Christian. Then he billed himself as an Italian from New Jersey with slicked-back hair and a fondness for “The Godfather.” After that, he tried to pass himself off as a Mexican who drank Corona and cooked carne asada.
But it was Joseph Farrokh’s last transformation — into a radical Muslim with plans to join the Islamic State — that has landed him in prison for the next eight years. He was among seven young men from Northern Virginia prosecuted on similar charges this year alone, raising concerns about both a potential rise in radicalization and a policing approach that relies heavily on undercover agents or informants posing as radicals.
Another, Mahmoud Elhassan, a student and licensed cabdriver, is accused of pushing Farrokh toward terror. Haris Qamar was a gamer with aspirations in banking when he was accused of helping make a propaganda video urging attacks on the Capitol. Mohamed Jalloh was a National Guardsman before he allegedly bought a gun in preparation for a Fort Hood-style massacre. Others charged were a police officer, a man who studied justice administration and a pot-smoking drifter.

Muslims keep fingers crossed over quota
Sep 1, 2016
Ever since the Telangana government constituted the Commission of Inquiry, led by former bureaucrat G Sudhir, to look into the socio-economic conditions of Muslims, it has been a subject of a lot of debate given the Telangana Rashtra Samithi's pre-poll promise of 12 per cent reservations for the community in education and employment. And after the panel submitted its recommendation to chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao recently, the community is ever more anxious of its outcome.
The Sachar Committee Report and the post-Sachar evaluation committee have been clear about the backwardness of the Muslim community. But should just education and employment be looked at to assess the condition of Muslims or are there other indicators too which need to be factored in for their uplift?

Hezbollah Hits Hard Fatah Al-Sham's Positions on Lebanon-Syria border
September 1, 2016
TEHRAN (FNA)- Hezbollah fighters targeted a gathering of the Fatah al-Sham Front terrorist group (the newly-formed al-Qaeda-affiliated terrorist group previously known as the al-Nusra Front) in Northeastern Lebanon, killing and wounding a number of Takfiri militants.
The Lebanese Hezbollah Resistance Movement struck the main bunker used by the Takfiri terrorists in Dahr al-Howa on the outskirts of the Northeastern border town of Arsal on Wednesday, according to the Lebanese resistance movement’s War Media Center.

Syrian Troops Close to Winning Full Control of Aleppo's Aviation Technical College
September 1, 2016
TEHRAN (FNA)- The Syrian army units have retaken vast areas of the aviation technical college in the military academy buildings in Southwestern Aleppo, a field commander said on Thursday.
"Heavy clashes are underway between the Syrian army and Jeish al-Fatah terrorists in the region, in which dozens of terrorists have been killed," the commander was qouted as saying by the Arabic service of Sputnik news agency.
"The militants, using wireless devices, have called on their leaders to send more forces to the military academy region to be able to stand against the Syrian army," he added.
The commander said that the Syrian army and resistance forces have driven out the terrorists from several strategic buildings in military academy by continued operations in the region.
Military sources announced on Wednesday that the Syrian army troops and their popular allies continued to push Jeish al-Fatah militants back from more positions in Housing Project 1070 and military academy buildings.
“70 percent of the aviation technical collage and 80 percent of project 1070 are under the control of the Syrian government forces,” the sources said.
“New advances of the Syrian Army in Aleppo districts have cut off narrow corridors of Jeish al-Fatah to the Central part of Aleppo city,” they added.
“Over 55 terrorists have been killed in army attacks in al-Amareh, al-Mahrouqat, and Um al-Qara’a,” they went on to say.
“The government forces have liberated al-Senobarat heights and are fortifying their positions there,” the sources said.

Jeish Al-Fatah Positions in Western Idlib Pounded by Air Force
September 1, 2016
TEHRAN (FNA)- The Syrian warplanes targeted the positions and gathering centers of Jeish al-Fatah terrorists in the Western and Northwestern parts of Idlib province.
The air force launched heavy airstrikes against the terrorists' strongholds in the villages of al-Janoudiyeh, Armanaz and Binnesh on Thursday.
Three positions and a number of vehicles, some equipped with machine guns, were destroyed and tens of terrorists were killed and wounded as a result of the operations.
The airstrikes against the terrorists were launched as the new wave of terrorists' rocket attacks left at least three civilians dead, among them a child, and tens of others wounded after over 200 shells were fired at the two besieged towns of Fuaa and Kefraya in Idlib province as the international community continues to keep mum about the crime.
In another development last Monday, a convoy of terrorist groups carrying a large number of fresh fighters heading from Idlib to the Aleppo battlefield was destroyed by the Syrian Army.
Syrian soldiers targeted convoy of fresh terrorists in the Southern side of the town of Hazano at Idlib border with Aleppo.
Three trucks were completely destroyed and a number of militants were killed and injured in the attacks.
In the meantime, the official in charge of the Operations Room of Fatah al-Sham (the newly-formed al-Qaeda-affiliated terrorist groups previously known as the al-Nusra Front) in Aleppo was killed last Sunday in clashes with the Syrian government forces.
Abu Feisal al-Halabi, one of the notorious masterminds in Fatah al-Sham's operation room for leading terrorist activities and attacks on government forces' positions in the province, was gunned down by the Syrian army men.

Romanian Court Expels Pak National from Romania over Promoting “Extremist Islamism”
September 1, 2016
Islamabad [Pakistan]: A Pakistani citizen has been ordered to leave Romania on charges of promoting ‘extremist Islamism’ online, causing a threat to national security by a court in Bucharest.
The Court of Appeal ruled that the man, identified only by his initials, S.A, should be expelled for 10 years on Tuesday, reports the Express Tribune.
The man is said to have entered the country illegally in 2015 and then married a Romanian woman, according to Romania’s main domestic intelligence agency.
On the basis of marriage, he then sought to obtain a residency permit.
The agency said that the man was kept under surveillance and it was found that he was involved in spreading propaganda online for Pakistani “terrorists.”
Earlier this year, a Milan Court had sentenced a Pakistani and a Tunisian to six years in prison for threatening terror attacks in Italy via social media.
They were deported to their respective countries after serving their sentences.

Why Do We Need Muslims in America?
August 31, 2016
With the latest wave of terror attacks carried out by mentally deranged individuals who pledge their allegiance to ISIS, your inclination to support the idea of banning Muslims from entering the country and even deporting them, may be getting stronger. You may have wondered, “if Muslims are inherently violent, wouldn’t America be safer without them? What benefit do they add to our society? Why do we need Muslims in America?”
But before I begin, I’d like to briefly discuss the history of Muslims in American so that you’ll understand that they have deep roots in this land and are in fact not foreigners at all.
Muslims came to America before this great nation was born and certainly many generations before your parents arrived. There is historical evidence that Muslims from Spain and North Africa arrived in the Americas a few centuries before Columbus did and if it weren’t for the maps and navigational information generated by these Muslims, Columbus may have never made a successful journey across the Atlantic.

The Islamic State’s European Strategy
September 01, 2016
LONDON – Terrorist attacks by Islamic State (ISIS) affiliates and sympathizers over the past year have raised alarms in Europe, but they have not yet reached the frequency Europe experienced in the 1970s, according to the Global Terrorism Database. However, whereas previous waves of terrorism in Europe stemmed from internal conflicts, today’s deadly surge is linked to instability outside the continent.
The latest attacks are emerging from the political vacuum left by fallen dictators in the Middle East and North Africa. So, just as there seems to be no end in sight for the violence in Syria, Iraq, and Libya, or for Egypt’s extreme polarization, or for the fragile security situation in Tunisia and Algeria, there is little reason to believe that attacks in Europe will end anytime soon.

With Terror Threat Growing, Europe Changes Course
September 01, 2016
Sixteen years ago, when Dutch commentator Paul Scheffer published his “Multicultural Drama” declaring that multiculturalism in the Netherlands had failed, the response was swift and angry. Critics across Europe called him racist, bigoted, nationalistic. Others dismissed his views as mere rants and ramblings of a Leftist in search of a cause.
Not anymore.
With over 275 people killed in 10 Islamic terrorist attacks since January 2015, Europeans harbor no more illusions about the multiculturalist vision: where immigrants from Muslim countries are concerned, that idealist vision has more than just failed. It has produced a culture of hatred, fear and unrelenting danger. Now, with European Muslim youth radicalizing at an unprecedented rate and the threat of new terrorist attacks, Europe is reassessing its handling of Muslim communities and its counterterrorism strategies and laws.

Jamaat-i-Islami Backs Merger of Fata With KP
September 1, 2016
MARDAN: Jamaat-i-Islami chief Senator Sirajul Haq has said that their party backs merger of Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
He was talking to journalists in Katlang area here on Wednesday after offering condolence to JI local leader Abdul Jalal on the death of his wife.
Mr Siraj said that they were supporting merger of Fata with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa but a decision in that regard should be made in the tribal areas instead of Islamabad.
He said that discrimination against the citizens of the country would not be allowed anymore.
He alleged that on one hand Wapda officials were disconnecting power supply to the houses of common people in case of non-payment of electricity bills but on the other hand corrupt leaders were looting the national exchequer ruthlessly and getting clean chit from the respective institutions.

Chaman border crossing reopens after 14 days
September 1, 2016
QUETTA: Pakistan reopened its border with Afghanistan at Chaman on Thursday, 14 days after it was closed after an Afghan mob burnt a Pakistani flag and attacked the Friendship Gate.
Islamabad agreed to reopen the border on Wednesday after Kabul strongly condemned the burning of the Pakistani flag. Officials from both sides held five meetings to discuss the issue until negotiations finally succeeded.
Trade activities between the two countries which had come to a standstill following closure of the border resumed on Thursday and security on both sides remains strict.
A three-member Afghan delegation, led by Col Mohammad Ali, had at the Tuesday night meeting handed over to Pakistani officials a letter in which the Afghan government strongly condemned the Aug 18 incident of burning of the Pakistani flag and pelting the Friendship Gate with stones.
The Afghan officials also termed the flag-burning incident an attempt by certain elements to create misunderstanding between the two countries, Dawn newspaper reported.
Pakistan had closed the border on Aug 19, a day after the Afghan nationals set the Pakistan flag on fire when thousands of Pakistani tribesmen held a rally in Chaman in protest against the Indian prime minister’s remarks on Balochistan.
The 14-day closure of the border badly affected Nato supplies, transit trade and repatriation of Afghan refugees under a UNHCR programme. Traders from both sides also suffered huge financial losses as all business activities remained suspended.
Every day, between 10,000 and 15,000 Pakistani and Afghan traders cross into Chaman and Vesh Mandi in connection with their businesses in the border towns.

September 1, 2016
ISLAMABAD: A privilege motion notice was submitted with the Senate chairman on Wednesday against the Pakistan Rangers for misleading the Senate Standing Committee on Human Rights by claiming that an international organisation had endorsed the Karachi operation being carried out by the paramilitary force.
PPP Senator Farhatullah Babar informed the committee that the privilege motion notice had been submitted by him. The lawmaker said he had searched for the international human rights organisation and called people in Pakistan, India and Nepal who said the body “Human Rights Commission South Asia” did not exist.
“All individuals [had] disassociated themselves from the fake organisation,” Mr Babar said.
PPP senator says the HR body whose report was quoted by the paramilitary force does not exist.

Over 40 MQM activists sent to jail in media attacks cases
September 1, 2016
KARACHI: The administrative judge of the antiterrorism courts remanded on Wednesday three leaders and around 40 activists of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement in prison in two cases pertaining to sedition, anti-state offences and attack on media houses.
Police reproduced MQM leaders MNA Kanwar Naveed Jameel, Qamar Mansoor and Shahid Pasha, who have been in custody since Aug 23, along with around 40 workers, including three women, because their last physical remand ended on Aug 30.
The police sought further extension in the custody of the suspects and submitted that they had recovered sticks and iron rods, allegedly used during the crime, on the lead provided by the detained suspects and added that some eyewitnesses had identified around 25 suspects during identification parades conducted by a judicial magistrate on Aug 30. However, the defence counsel opposed the extension in physical remand and asked the court to send them to prison.

50 to go on hunger strike, demanding news from PKK leader Öcalan
September 1, 2016
A group of 50 people will go on hunger strike until they receive news on Abdullah Öcalan, the jailed leader of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), the leader of a Kurdish-issue focused group announced on Aug. 31 in the southeastern province of Diyarbakır.
“Even though 46 days have passed from July 15, and even though it is clear that the coup plotting soldiers made an actual attempt toward İmralı [island prison], we haven’t received any objective information regarding Öcalan’s health and security,” Democratic Society Congress (DTK) co-chair Hatip Dicle told journalists, referring to the failed July 15 coup attempt, believed to have been masterminded by the U.S.-based Islamic scholar Fethullah Gülen.
“All of our political, legal, diplomatic, humanitarian efforts, which we have been continuing for 510 days, have been let down by the government,” Dicle also said, adding that they had not received any news concerning Öcalan for 510 days.
He said the group will start the hunger strike on Sept. 5 and will only end it when they hear from Öcalan via his lawyers, family members or a political delegation.
The co-chairs of the opposition Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP), Selahattin Demirtaş and Figen Yüksekdağ, several HDP deputies, and other Kurdish issue-focused groups were present at the announcement.
Tension rose at the gathering after the group hung up Öcalan’s poster, which was later removed by the orders of the police.
Shortly after the statement was made, police raided the DTK building in Diyarbakır and seized several documents.

Turkish linguist arrested on terror charges in Özgür Gündem probe
September 1, 2016
Turkish linguist and author Necmiye Alpay was arrested on Aug. 31 on terror charges as a part of an ongoing investigation into closed daily Özgür Gündem.
The Istanbul 8th Criminal Court of Peace ordered the arrest of Alpay on charges of being a member of a terror organization and disrupting the unity of the state, regarding the projected penalty, her writings and position in the daily and the possibility that she might escape if released.
In her testimony, Alpay denied the accusations, saying she had always been against terror and violence. She was later referred to court for arrest.
A member of Özgür Gündem’s advisory committee, Alpay said in her testimony that it was merely a symbolic duty, adding she accepted the post thinking it would help the resolution of Kurdish issue, prevent clashes and deaths and reduce tension in society.
Alpay also noted she did not know senior figures of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in the Kandil Mountains in northern Iraq also wrote for the daily.
Özgür Gündem was temporarily shut down on Aug. 16 for allegedly conducting propaganda on behalf of the PKK and acting as the organization’s media organ.
The daily’s editor-in-chief, Zana Kaya, and managing editor, İnan Kızılkaya, were arrested on Aug. 22.
In addition, another member of the advisory board, award-winning novelist Aslı Erdoğan, was arrested on Aug. 18 on the same charges.
Meanwhile, nine campaigners who had previously served as one-day editors-in-chief of the daily as a part of a solidarity campaign were called to testify on Sept. 1.
Among those who were called to testify were prominent journalist Hasan Cemal, Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) central executive committee member Çilem Küçükkeleş, ETHA editor Derya Okatan, editor-in-chief of shut-down news website haberdar Said Sefaoğlu, Tuğrul Eryılmaz, Dicle Anter, Hasan Hüseyin Tahmaz, Murat Uyurkulak and Nadire Mater.

US journalist detained in Turkey after fleeing Syria
September 1, 2016
An Americanjournalist has been detained in Turkey and charged with “violating a military zone” after she returned from war-torn Syria, U.S. officials said Aug. 31.
US State Department spokesman John Kirby said Lindsey Snell was detained on Aug. 6, and that U.S. consular officials were only able to visit her almost three weeks later on Aug. 26.
Snell’s Twitter biography identifies her as an Istanbul-based video journalist who has contributed to several Western networks and news organizations including MSNBC, VICE News and ABC.
On Facebook, she describes herself as hailing from Daytona Beach, Florida, and to have graduated from the University of Florida in 2005. She is a Muslim and wears a headscarf in pictures.
Her last tweets were sent on Aug. 5, when she referred to having been imprisoned for 10 days by militants from the al-Nusra Front before escaping with the aid of a “brave man on a motorcycle.”
On her Facebook page, again on Aug. 5, she said she had been able to document her time in al-Nusra’s captivity with her cellphone.
“It’s a crazy story,” she wrote. “A cave prison [the previous tenant of my cell had marked his days in residence in blood on the walls], masked villains, motorcycle escapes and disguises. I can’t wait to share the details.”
There was no reference to her having arrived in Turkey, but the country would be the obvious first destination of anyone trying to flee the Aleppo region of Syria after escaping a kidnapping.
“She was detained in Turkey. As I understand it she journeyed to Turkey from Syria,” Kirby told reporters in Washington. “She is currently being held at a prison facility in the border province of Hatay.
“What we understand is that she has been charged with violating a military zone, but I can’t speak to her reasons for being in Syria and traveling there,” he added.
Turkish forces are deployed to the border area as part of efforts to control the flow of fighters and weapons to the civil war.

September 1, 2016
TEHRAN (FNA)- Moscow is calling on Ankara to agree its military actions with the Syrian government, as well as to refrain from attacking opposition and ethnic groups in Syria, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.
"We closely monitor the Turkish Armed Forces’ military operation in Syria. Certainly, we share the Turkish Republic’s wish to struggle against the ISIL which is an embodiment of the international evil, but at the same time we would like to draw attention to the need for following international law and to coordinate all military operations in the territory of a sovereign state with the legitimate government of that country," the Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said during her weekly press briefing, TASS reported.
"We are calling on Turkish partners for selective approach in choosing targets for the anti-terrorism operation and for avoiding strikes on the sites of deployment of opposition and ethnic groups, including Syrian Kurds also fighting against the ISIL," she added.

September 1, 2016
Turkey has summoned the United States’ ambassador to Ankara, John Bass, to express the government’s disturbance over statements issued by Washington that suggested a loose agreement had been reached between Turkey and the Syrian Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD) group.
“It has been underlined that such statements are by no means acceptable and that they do not comply with the alliance relationship,” read a statement issued by Tanju Bilgiç, spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry, late on Aug. 30.
Bilgiç’s statement came after Ash Carter, the U.S. secretary of defense; Brett McGurk, the U.S. special envoy on the fight against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL); and spokespersons from the Department of Defense and the White House each urged Turkey to stop clashing with the PYD.

Two youths from Peshawar city of Pakistan were arrested by the Afghan intelligence operatives before they manage to carry out attacks in Jalalabad city, the provincial capital of Nangarhar province.
The National Directorate of Security (NDS) said the two youths have been identified as Shakirullah son of Khanzada Gul who is originally a resident of Peshawar city while the second bomber was identified as Sajad son of Riaz who is also a resident of Peshawar cty.
The two bombers have confessed that they were trained in Haidar Khord Madrasa in Peshawar city by Qari Bilal.
NDS further added that the two youths were identified and arrested from Torkham shortly after they entered Afghanistan from the other side of Durand Line.
According to NDS, the arrest of the two Peshawar youths by the intelligence operatives proves that the training camps of the terrorist groups are still operating on the side of the line.
This comes as the Afghan officials have long been criticizing Pakistan for allowing the terrorist groups to use its soil for planning and coordinating attacks in Afghanistan.
The Afghan officials are saying that the Taliban group leadership and the Haqqani network leaders are based in Pakistan from where they plan attacks in Afghanistan.

Afghanistan and Pakistan agree to reopen crossing at Chaman tomorrow
Wed Aug 31 2016
A key crossing along the Durand Line will be reopened tomorrow after the officials of the two countries reached to an agreement during a meeting on Wednesday.
A spokesman for Frontier Corps of Pakistan Khan Wasay said the agreement was concluded during a successful meeting at the crossing, the Friendship Gate, today.
This comes as the officials of the two countries met for at least four times to resovle the issue but no breakthrough was made during the negotiations.
The crossing was closed on 18th August after a group of demonstrators allegedly attacked a check post belonging to the Pakistani forces and set a the country’s flag on fire.
The closing of the crossing affected the trade activities between the two countries as scores of trucks stranded on the two sides of the line.
In the meantime, the officials in Afghanistan’s Chamber of Commerce and Industries said several tons of fresh fruit were airlifted to India as deadlock persisted for several days due to the closure of the land route.
This is not the first time tensions have intensified between the two countries along the Durand Line.
The Afghan and Pakistani forces exchanged fire in Torkham earlier in June which resulted in to the closure of the gate for several days.
Both the Afghan and Pakistani forces suffered casualties during the clashes that erupted due to the construction of a gate by Pakistan which the Afghan officials called a unilateral move and against a bilateral agreement between the two nations.

Officials in Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ACCI) have said the agreement was reached with India after closure of land route by Pakistan incurred millions in loss to the Afghan traders.

This comes as the main land transit route remains blocked for the past two weeks along Durand Line located near Chaman.
The gate was closed after the Pakistani officials claimed that some of the Afghan demnstrators attacked the check post in Friendship Gate and set the Pakistani flag on fire.
Numerous attempts have been made to resolve the issue and reopen the crossing but no breakthrough has been made so far.
The NATO supplies and cross border trade activities were also suspended on 10th consecutive day on Saturday.
Earlier tensions intensified between the two neighboring countries on several occassions during the past recent months, mainly due to the establishment of gates and other installations.

Thailand government to resume peace talks with Muslim insurgents
September 1, 2016
Thailand’s military government said on Thursday peace talks with Muslim separatists operating in the far south of the country would resume in Malaysia, but no agreement would be signed unless the insurgents observed a ceasefire. The separatists from the far-south Muslim-majority provinces of Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat have been blamed for an unprecedented string of bombings last month in several tourist towns that killed four people and wounded dozens.
A decades-old insurgency in the deep south of predominately Buddhist Thailand flared in 2004 and more than 6,500 people have been killed since then, according to the independent monitoring group Deep South Watch. Talks between the government and insurgents began in 2013 under the civilian government of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra but have stalled since the military overthrew her government in 2014.

Attack on eve of Malaysia's National Day foiled
September 1, 2016
KUALA LUMPUR - For months, the three men laid low, going about their daily routine while waiting for the signal to attack to come from Syria.
When at last the instruction came from notorious Islamic State (IS) militant Mohamad Wanndy Mohamad Jedi at the end of July, the men quickly started gathering arms and putting together a chilling plan.
They were going to attack on the eve of National Day when the rest of their countrymen were celebrating what it meant to be Malaysians and among their targets are a temple in Batu Caves, the Kajang police headquarters and various entertainment outlets.
The men were in the last phase of their plans - even going to the extent of monitoring their targets - when the Bukit Aman Special Branch Counter-Terrorism Division moved in on them.
Anti-terror officers detained the men - a 20-year-old contractor, a 27-year-old butcher and a college student, also 20 - in Selangor, Pahang and Kuala Lumpur between Aug 27 and 29.

Thai kingpin jailed for Rohingya trafficking
1 September 2016
A Thai man accused of masterminding the smuggling and trafficking of Rohingya migrants fleeing Myanmar has been jailed for 35 years, a court said Thursday.
Southern Thailand has long been known as a nexus for lucrative smuggling networks through which persecuted Rohingya Muslims in Buddhist-majority Myanmar, and Bangladeshi economic migrants, pass on their way to Malaysia.
For years Thailand turned a blind eye to -- and was even complicit in -- the well-worn trafficking trade in the deep south.
Migrants who were found at sea on a boat stand in line as they are repatriated across the Myanmar-Bangladesh border in Rakhine in June 2015
