What Pakistan does or does not do with regard to terrorists operating within its national boundaries is not going to affect Pakistan alone, it will hurt the whole world particularly its neighborhood. It is clear that Pakistan lacks both capability and moral authority to rein in the terrorists whom it has bred and reared. Confusion over basic facts

The history of ‘Islamisation’ of Pakistan must be understood before forming an opinion on the contours of the Swat deal . General Yahya Khan, the military dictator of Pakistan of the late 1960s-early 1970s, reformed family Laws in Pakistan. He made it extremely difficult for a Pakistani man to have a second wife. They had to take the Court’s permission and the application had to include the first wife’s written permission along with the compelling reasons for marrying a second time. This encouraged Pakistani feminists and they soon became a strong force to contend with. According to information I have received, Haryoto with his partner
were taken to the police station by the accused at about 1:30am on
January 23, 2007. They were made to strip down to their underwear,
and were then viciously beaten and verbally abused by the accused.
Hartoyo said that the officers forced his partner to perform oral sex
on him. When he refused Hartoyo was again kicked and scolded. Then,
the victims still in their underwear were dragged to the courtyard in
the police station, made to squat on the ground and were sprayed with
ice-cold water. When he asked permission to go to the toilet, the
officers forced his partner to urinate on Hartoyo's head.

Pakistan’s forgotten ghetto residents: the Biharis of Bangladesh

Camp conditions are miserable, and large groups of families are often forced to share their living area with animals. They have no rights, limited job options and few economic prospects. They are refugees. Although they did not desert their country; their country appears to have forgotten them.

In pre-independence India, they were a Muslim minority in the region of Bihar. At the time of the partition in 1947, many moved to what was then East Pakistan. When civil war broke out between East and West Pakistan, the Biharis sided with the West. Subsequently in 1971, East Pakistan became the independent state of Bangladesh, and these Biharis who had been loyal to Pakistan were denied citizenship because they were deemed as collaborators and had "supported the enemy".

Their first choice was to leave the new nation and go to the west, the part of Pakistan that still existed. They expected to be welcomed, and they waited. Almost four decades later, they continue to wait in silence and despair. & nbsp; Pakistan initially denied them permission to emigrate, fearing a massive influx could destabilize the country. The legal limbo they find themselves in predicts and even more despondent future.

According to the Ahmadiya Jamat, it had sought permission for the now cancelled meeting in Hyderabad two months ago. Initially the State Government had refused to grant permission in view of the opposition and protest from Muslims. Consequently they went to the High Court and the court granted them permission only two days before the meeting was scheduled. On the advocate-general's objection that it could cause a law and order problem, the court observed that it was the duty of the Government to maintain law and order and provide protection to the meeting.

However, hours before the scheduled march to the venue, the Government issued a notice cancelling not only the Ahmadiya meeting but also all other functions in different auditoriums and buildings within the sprawling Public Gardens. The Muslim organisations have filed a caveat in the High Court, saying the Ahmadiyas should not be allowed to hold any public event in the name of Muslims and Islam.
